🏳️⚧️ Happy Trans Day of Visibility! 🏳️⚧️
Today, on International Transgender Day of Visibility, Danville Pride stands with every trans person in our community and across this country loudly, proudly, and without apology.
We see you. We love you. We are not going anywhere.
We're sharing the Trevor Project's latest data below because numbers matter, but so does context. And the context right now is this: trans people in America are living under a coordinated political assault unlike anything this country has seen in modern memory. Legislators, many of whom couldn't name a single trans person in their district, are filing bill after bill targeting trans youth in schools, trans people in bathrooms, trans athletes, trans healthcare, trans existence in public life. These aren't principled policy disagreements. They are calculated cruelty, designed to fire up the most hateful voices in their base while real human beings, our neighbors, our kids, our family members, pay the price with their mental health, their safety, and sometimes their lives.
Let's be clear about what's actually happening: politicians are using trans people as a wedge issue because they have decided our lives are worth less than their poll numbers. That is a moral failure of the highest order, and we refuse to normalize it.
And yet, trans people are still here. Still building community. Still creating art, raising families, showing up for each other with a resilience that puts their tormentors to shame. That is worth celebrating with everything we've got.
If you are trans and reading this: you are not a political football. You are not a culture war talking point. You are a full, complete, beloved human being, and this community will fight for your right to live freely and authentically for as long as it takes.
To our allies: now is not the time to be quiet or comfortable. Show up. Speak up. Vote. Donate. And on a day like today, make sure the trans people in your life know exactly where you stand.
Happy Trans Day of Visibility. 🧡🩷🤍🩵💙
