🌈 Hi everyone! Danville Pride is briefly stepping out of our hiatus to share something exciting — we’re partnering with ImpactLife to host a community blood drive! 🩸
There’s no better way to give back to our community than through a simple act that can truly save lives.
We know some of you may be wondering about donation restrictions for LGBTQ+ donors. Good news: as of 2023, the FDA updated its blood donation eligibility guidelines, and eligible LGBTQ+ individuals are able to donate. You can learn more here:
🔗U.S. FDA Finalized its Recommendations on Changes to Donor Eligibility (https://www.bloodcenter.org/about/news/news-releases/us-food-and-drug-administration-issues-final-guidance-on-changes-to-donor-eligibility/)
🔗 Donor Eligibility | ImpactLife (https://www.bloodcenter.org/donate/donor/requirements-faq/)
We invite you to join us anytime between June 22–27 during donor center hours to help support the ongoing need for blood donations in our community.
✨ Walk-ins are welcome!
When you donate, please let the staff know you are donating on behalf of Danville Pride and provide our group code: 71453
📍 Center Hours
• Monday & Friday: 10 AM – 4 PM

To our Danville Pride community,

We have some news to share, and we want to share it with you honestly and from the heart.

Danville Pride will be going on hiatus effective immediately.

This is not a goodbye. We will be returning later this year with new leadership, a new vision, and a renewed energy for bringing local q***r folks together. We are not going anywhere permanently, we just need a moment to regroup and come back the right way. When we return, our Vice Chair Beau will be moving into the role of Chair of Danville Pride. I believe in their passion about the future of this organization whole-heartedly, and I can tell you as someone who has witnessed their journey in Danville - they are ready for the challenge. It also is, in my opinion, epic as hell to have someone who found and got engaged to their fiancé at Danville Pride events take the reins. You have to admit that's cool.

The honest reason for the pause is simple: attendance at our mixer events has dropped significantly, and mixers take a tremendous amount of effort to put on. When the turnout doesn't reflect that effort over a sustained period of time, it becomes difficult to keep the momentum going. That's just the reality we found ourselves in, and we'd rather be transparent with you than pretend otherwise.

On a personal note, I also want to share something.

Founding and leading Danville Pride has been one of the great joys of my life and my career. Watching this organization earn not one but two Reader's Choice Awards, meant more to me than I can put into words. Every event, every connection made, every person who walked through the door and felt a little less alone, that's what this was always about.

Stepping back from my role as Chair is emotional for me. But it is what I personally need right now. Burnout is real, and it is nobody's fault. I wanted everything we did to be perfect for this community, and that desire, while it came from a place of love, took a toll over time. Taking care of myself is not something I'll apologize for, and I hope you all won't either, in your own lives.

Danville Pride will be in good hands this fall. The best is still ahead.

With love and gratitude,
Cody Gilkeson
Co-Founder and Outgoing Chair, Danville Pride

At Danville Pride, we know that our vibrant community is made stronger by the neurodiversity within it. 🏳️‍🌈♾️
Today, on Autism Awareness Day, we want to send a clear message: We love our autistic community members. You aren’t just "included"—you are an essential part of the fabric of Danville Pride.
True allyship isn't just about one day on the calendar; it’s about standing together, listening, and advocating every single day of the year. We see you, we support you, and we celebrate the unique perspectives you bring to our world.

🏳️‍⚧️ Happy Trans Day of Visibility! 🏳️‍⚧️

Today, on International Transgender Day of Visibility, Danville Pride stands with every trans person in our community and across this country loudly, proudly, and without apology.

We see you. We love you. We are not going anywhere.

We're sharing the Trevor Project's latest data below because numbers matter, but so does context. And the context right now is this: trans people in America are living under a coordinated political assault unlike anything this country has seen in modern memory. Legislators, many of whom couldn't name a single trans person in their district, are filing bill after bill targeting trans youth in schools, trans people in bathrooms, trans athletes, trans healthcare, trans existence in public life. These aren't principled policy disagreements. They are calculated cruelty, designed to fire up the most hateful voices in their base while real human beings, our neighbors, our kids, our family members, pay the price with their mental health, their safety, and sometimes their lives.

Let's be clear about what's actually happening: politicians are using trans people as a wedge issue because they have decided our lives are worth less than their poll numbers. That is a moral failure of the highest order, and we refuse to normalize it.

And yet, trans people are still here. Still building community. Still creating art, raising families, showing up for each other with a resilience that puts their tormentors to shame. That is worth celebrating with everything we've got.

If you are trans and reading this: you are not a political football. You are not a culture war talking point. You are a full, complete, beloved human being, and this community will fight for your right to live freely and authentically for as long as it takes.

To our allies: now is not the time to be quiet or comfortable. Show up. Speak up. Vote. Donate. And on a day like today, make sure the trans people in your life know exactly where you stand.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility. 🧡🩷🤍🩵💙
