All three women will share facts, local real life examples of why we should be concerned about homelessness, and how community-planned responses are moving forward.

Please bring your questions to this community discussion.

For those unable to attend, a recording of this program will be available. Send your request for the recording in reply to this email.

The Boyle Branch announces its September program:

The Needs of KY’s Seniors and How the Legislature Could Help

Speaker: Eric Evans, the Associate State Director
Advocacy Strategy for Kentucky AARP

Tuesday, September 13 at 7:00 pm
at The Inter-County Energy Cooperative Community Room
1009 Hustonville Road, Danville

The program will focus on important legislation under consideration for the next General Assembly session, and what the unmet needs of the aging population are. Currently the speaker is working to pass legislation to lower prescription drug costs, lower taxes for retirees, prevent utility rate hikes, improve Kentucky’s guardianship laws and prevent the passage of bills that will hurt older Kentuckians. Also discussed will be the role of AARP in speaking with elected officials, community groups and individuals about special concerns.

Our speaker, Eric Evans, has worked with legislatures and other elected officials for non-profits for 16 years, the last seven for AARP. He provides strategic leadership in advocacy at the state level with the Kentucky General Assembly, advancing AARP priority issues such as healthcare and financial security. He also works with community partners in the interests of the aging population. Among his successes are helping with the passage of the Family Caregivers Act, increased funding for the Senior Meals Program, capping the cost of insulin and working to make sure nursing homes safer during the pandemic. AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with a membership of nearly 38 million Americans.

Bring your questions for Q & A and discussion.

Please join us in person or by zoom

CentreWorks will host a second public forum on Thursday, June 23, for Boyle County residents who want to learn about and discuss issues related to utility-scale solar energy production in the county. The forum will begin at 7 p.m. at CentreWorks in Suite 300 of 236 West Main St. In Danville. (Use the Spine Center entrance on Third Street behind the Hub Cafe and Centre Bookstore and take the elevator or stairs to the third floor.)

The June 23 forum will include a 30-minute panel discussion with Brooks Lamb from American Farmland Trust (AFT) and Danville Attorney Mark L. Morgan. The panel discussion will be followed by 30 minutes of discussion with attendees.

As Program Associate & Special Assistant to the President at AFT, Lamb works on programs and projects across the nation - including issues related to solar power in rural communities. For example, Lamb has studied and written about “agrivoltaics,” or farming and producing solar energy on the same land area. He also grew up on a small family farm in Tennessee.

Morgan has been active in past local initiatives related to energy and natural resource policy, and will discuss regulatory issues related to merchant solar production facilities that include the work of the Kentucky State Board on Electric Generation and Transmission Siting. He received his undergraduate degree in Environmental Policy from Duke University and worked for the Appalachian Research and Defense Fund of Kentucky, a private non-profit law firm commonly known as "AppalReD Legal Aid."

CentreWorks Co-Founders and Executive Directors, Andrea and Anthony Margida, will guide the discussion among the speakers and welcome questions from the audience.

“The response to our first public forum on May 24 showed a real interest among county residents in gaining a better understanding of and discussing local questions related to utility-scale solar power production,” Andrea Margida said. “The panelists for our second forum will bring additional perspectives on farming and the current regulatory structure.

Centre College established CentreWorks in 2020 to work with the city of Danville, Boyle County, and a seven-county region to establish resilience and enable growth within Kentucky’s Bluegrass region. CentreWorks’ programming, available to the entire region, has been custom-designed to provide collaboration, ideation, education, mentoring, skills enhancement, and investment opportunities.
