Our 2025 retreat at Sonoma State was full of what we love most—long stretches of sewing time, good company, and plenty of fabric inspiration.
This year’s retreat block, Not Quite Freddy’s House, was created in tribute to Freddie Moran’s bold, colorful style. Attendees brought their completed blocks from home and received a raffle ticket for each one they submitted.
At the retreat, we raffled off the entire set—nearly 100 blocks—and one lucky member walked away with all of them to turn into a show-stopping quilt.
On Saturday, we gathered for a group photo wearing red glasses in honor of Freddie. The glasses added some humor and a bright pop of color—and made for a great photo!
We kept things relaxed and fun with a few simple games, including Tic-Tac-Toe Bingo, to encourage people to mingle, and Left, Center, Right, where fat quarters were up for grabs!
During Show and Tell, a group of curious teenage girls peeked into our room, wondering what all the excitement was about. We invited them in and learned they were part of a STEM summer camp on campus. It was a fun and fitting crossover—watching one generation of makers inspire the next, in a totally unexpected way.
Throughout the weekend, we raffled off $50 gift cards to some of our favorite local shops:
Dublin Sewing Center
Bay Quilts
Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics
The Sewing Machine Shop
The Cotton Patch
Thanks to everyone who showed up, stitched late, swapped stories, and made the weekend what it was. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
