Parents please check out Mr.Owens emails and posts for information!
Good afternoon,
Here are some updates as we continue into the 2nd semester. Attached you will find a PDF calendar for your convenience as well as all currently scheduled events below. There's a lot going on!
Overall, our students are progressing very well this semester. Things are finally starting to click and they are becoming more independent and self-sufficient. Students should be encouraged to practice outside of class. There's a lot of talent that goes to waste. Simple listening to their performance pieces on YouTube can count as practice from time to time as it helps them identify rhythms and connections to other parts of the music. Rhythms can ALWAYS be practiced without an instrument and without sounds being made.
We have 2 student teachers from EIU joining us this semester. Ms. McQueen and Ms. Smith.
Please consider attending our next Booster Meeting at NR on February 15th at 6pm in the Band Room. We have a lot of events that we need help with in March and April.
Advanced Band and Jazz Band Members will need to purchase band polos for their upcoming performances.. These are $12 and more specific information will be sent home on this topic this week. We have some fundraising opportunities coming up so be sure to attend a Booster Meeting.
T-Shirt and Hoodie orders are in and orders are being sent home with students starting today 01/30/24.
****Current 7th and 8th graders are able to join the DHS Marching Band next fall. More information will come from Mr. Krapf at DHS about this, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up. Students who fundraise early will have more money to cover fees.. Keep in mind, this gives current 7th and 8th graders a few extra years to fund their trip to DISNEY WORLD when we go the next time.**** This will also be discussed at our Booster Meetings.
And most importantly, our students are able to take FREE lessons on their instrument. Lessons are expensive and very few schools have this opportunity. We have spots available so let's use them! Scheduling is flexible. Committing to something like lessons will push your student to become more resilient. Reach out to me if you'd like more information.
That's all for now.
Thanks!
