Saturday Jan 31 was The NWTF’s New England Turkey Hunting Hall of Fame induction ceremony where we inducted 6 tremendous conservationists for their lifetime body of work.

Give it a look if you’d like to see and appreciate how much some folks have done for the resource and for hunters.

Last night members of the North Country Longspurs attended the New England Turkey Hunting Hall of Fame Banquet in Concord, NH where awards were presented.
At the banquet, Rocky accepted the Chapter Contribution Award on behalf of the Bunnell family, recognizing their 27 years of dedication to providing JAKES events for youth in Vermont and New Hampshire.
Andre accepted the award for Top JAKES Event. This achievement reflects the many hours of hard work and dedication contributed by our members and volunteers—without their efforts, this tradition would not continue.
In addition, our very own Tim Corey was inducted into the National Hall of Fame. Tim is one of the founders of the North Country Longspurs and served as President for many years. He was also instrumental in establishing our Heritage Banquet. His long-standing dedication to the NWTF and our local chapter has made a lasting impact, providing knowledge, experience, and opportunities to youth in our local communities.

The Vermont State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is asking for your help to spread the word about an upcoming event - Vermont High School Turkey Calling Contest. It will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at the Yankee Sportsman’s Classic in Essex Junction, Vermont. There will be three divisions: mouth callers, friction callers and a two-man team. All callers will receive a gift from the Vermont state chapter and there will be grand prizes for the winners of each division.

We would also like you to know that the NWTF has scholarship programs. Local, state and National scholarship information can be found at NWTF.org or by contacting the people above.

Youth Calling Contest:
A youth calling contest will be held on Saturday, January 17th at the same location. This is for younger individuals who have NOT yet entered high school.

We thank you and ask that you spread the word to help keep our young folks engaged in the outdoors.

The event began around 7:30 a.m. with a fishing tournament at the camp pond that was stocked with trout for the event.

Meet Zachary Willson...Zachary has been with the Longspurs for many, many years. Around 15 or so of those years Zachary was a participate in all the classes offered on Jakes Day, he later became an NRA certified shotgun instructor at Jakes Day. Now that his schedule allows, he is an active member.
Zachary is an electrician from Lyndonville. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, trapping, boating, shooting speed pistol, s***t, trap and sporting clays. He is also an instructor for 4-H Shooting Sports on both the State and National levels.
Welcome and thank you Zachary.
