They’re kids. And every child deserves someone in their corner who sees them for who they are and believes in who they can become. 💙

Some people leave behind a legacy you can point to. Others leave behind a feeling.

Dolly Parton left behind both.

She made people laugh, gave generously, championed children, opened doors, and never seemed to forget the power of making someone feel seen and cared for.

Her life is a reminder that kindness doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it looks like showing up. Sometimes it's giving what you can. Sometimes it's simply making someone else's day a little brighter.

The good we put into the world has a way of living on.

Fall is bringing TWO ways to become a CASA volunteer! Our current training class is underway, which means it’s time to start opening registration for our next round of CASA volunteer training! ❤️💙

This fall, you’ll have two training options to choose from:
🏫 In-Person Training
Meet with our team and fellow volunteers for 8 sessions, each lasting approximately 3 to 3.5 hours. Learn together through discussion, activities, and real-world scenarios.
💻 Guided Learning
Complete mostly self-guided coursework over 5 weeks, with weekly review sessions alongside CASA staff to ask questions, discuss the material, and connect what you’re learning to advocacy.

Whether you thrive in a classroom setting or prefer a little more flexibility, there’s a training option that can work for you!

💙 Every child deserves a voice in court.

Our volunteers show up, listen, build relationships, gather information, and make sure the child’s needs and best interests are represented in court. They can be the consistent adult in a child’s life when so much else feels uncertain.

Right now, we’re recruiting new volunteers! If you’ve ever wondered, “Could I really make a difference?” the answer is yes. You don’t have to be a social worker, lawyer, or child welfare expert. You just need to care about children, be willing to learn, and have the heart to show up.

So, what does a CASA volunteer actually do? A CASA volunteer is a consistent voice for a child navigating the child welfare and court systems. They:

📋 Gather information by getting to know the child and the people involved in their life.
💬 Facilitate communication between the child, family, professionals, and others involved in the case.
⚖️ Advocate for the child’s best interests in and out of the courtroom.
🔎 Monitor the case to help make sure the child’s needs are being addressed and services are being provided.

And the impact is real. In 2024, CASA/GAL programs across the country served 214,000 children with the help of 79,000 volunteer advocates. Research has also found that children with a CASA/GAL advocate experience fewer placements and are about half as likely to re-enter the child welfare system.

One volunteer can make a lasting difference simply by showing up, paying attention, and making sure a child’s voice is heard.

This is a big deal for Kentucky kids. 📱

Today, a landmark federal trial begins over what may be one of the biggest questions facing childhood today: How much responsibility should social media companies have for the impact their platforms have on children?

And Kentucky is right at the center of it.

Kentucky is one of four states, alongside California, Colorado, and New Jersey, whose claims against Meta are being heard in this trial. Twenty-nine states in total are pursuing the federal case, alleging that Meta intentionally designed Facebook and Instagram to be addictive to young users, misled families about the risks, and improperly collected children’s data. Meta denies the allegations.

The trial is expected to last six to eight weeks, and it could have significant implications for how social media platforms operate and how children are protected online.

It also feels particularly timely for us after recently reading The Anxious Generation with our CASA Book Club.

One of our biggest takeaways was that this cannot be a problem parents are expected to solve alone.

Parents can set boundaries. Schools can respond to what they see in their classrooms. Communities can support families. Lawmakers can establish protections. And companies have a responsibility to consider what happens when the products they design are being used by millions of children.

That is why we’ll be paying attention to this trial.

Because when it comes to protecting children, the village matters.

And right now, Kentucky is part of the conversation. 💙
