The purpose of this program is to recruit high school juniors and seniors to virtually read books to children from kindergarten through 5th grade.

Early Elementary (Ages 5–7): Focus on reading aloud together. Use the illustrations to discuss characters' emotions and keep the text short to prevent the child from becoming overwhelmed.

Upper Elementary (Ages 8–11): Introduce structured non-fiction, encourage independent reading, and teach them how to look up unfamiliar words using a dictionary.

Program Purpose

Virtual Mentorship: Connects older student volunteers with younger children using technology.

Community Engagement: Encourages high schoolers to earn volunteer hours through literacy service.

Flexible Learning: Offers multiple reading formats including FaceTime, phone calls, and group Zoom sessions.

How It Improves Reading Levels

Active Engagement: Volunteers ask targeted questions during stories to keep children focused.

Comprehension Skills: Discussion during reading helps children process and understand the plot.

Role Modeling: Seeing older youth value reading motivates younger students to practice.

Increased Exposure: Regular sessions increase the total time children spend interacting with books.I
