On April 07, 2026, Directors of the Global Jadavpur University Alumni Foundation (GJUAF), Ms Sreeja Das (Seattle, USA) and Mr Nilangshu Dey (Qatar), visited key GJUAF-supported initiatives at Jadavpur University.

Mr Dey (ETCE alumnus) and Ms Das (CSE alumna) were accompanied by Dr Asim Ray (Chemical Engineering alumnus), Director and VP – Project Implementation, and Ms Alokeparna Ghosh, Administrative Manager, GJUAF.

The team held a productive meeting with the ETCE Integrated Circuits Centre of Excellence, engaging with Prof Sayan Chatterjee (Coordinator) and Prof Sheli Sinha Choudhury. They also visited the VLSI Lab supported by GJUAF.

In addition, the team visited the University Innovation Council (IIC). GJUAF is considering a potential collaborative Startup Assistance Program, where alumni would provide mentorship to selected student startups based on merit, with GJUAF supporting key infrastructure, including tinkering lab equipment and seed funding.

These engagements reflect GJUAF’s continued commitment to strengthening innovation ecosystems and enabling meaningful alumni-driven impact at Jadavpur University.

The students of the ISHRAE JU Students’ Chapter have scripted an extraordinary success story in the AQUEST competition—starting from Kolkata and culminating in a national championship!

From sweeping the Kolkata Chapter Round podium to dominating the Quarter Finals at JU, excelling in the Semifinals at Chennai, and finally shining at the Grand Finals in Mumbai—their journey has been nothing short of phenomenal.

Innovation Excellence at Bajaj Auto

More good news!

Anirban Sarkar, Sharanyo Pramanik, and Souradeep Basu (Mechanical UG IV) achieved 1st Runner-Up at a prestigious All India Innovation Challenge by Bajaj Auto held at Pune.

Competing against top institutions including IITs and NITs, their achievement stands out as a testament to JU’s innovation culture.

Challenge:
Design a cost-effective hybrid braking system for a two-wheeler—more efficient than drum brakes and more affordable than hydraulic discs.

Their performance reflects strong technical depth and hands-on experience, honed through their work with the JU Motorsports Club.

These achievements remind us—when we support our students in constructive, innovative pursuits, excellence naturally follows.

A card game to make literature more inclusive?
The Hindu and Anandabazar Patrika can’t stop talking about it!

GJUAF is proud to share news of a unique Braille-based card game developed at Jadavpur University that brings disability, inclusion, and literature together in a creative way.

Funded by GJUAF, Prof. Ishan Chakrabarty of the Department of English, Jadavpur University, has created an inclusive, Braille-integrated card game that brings the stories of disabled authors into focus. Students can learn about writers from diverse backgrounds while enjoying an innovative way to explore literature.

Called “Crip Lit Cards,” the game is designed with tactile elements and Braille. It helps players explore the work of disabled authors while making learning more inclusive and interactive.

GJUAF & Jadavpur University Collaboration for Startup Assistance Program

Jadavpur University has inaugurated a cutting-edge Innovation & Incubation Hub under its Institute Innovation Council (IIC) Startup Assistance Program — a dedicated platform to help students transform ideas into real, sustainable ventures.

Housed on the 7th floor of the Technology Bhavan, the new hub features incubation offices, a tinkering and prototype zone, a STEAM-based fabrication lab, co-working space, and a seminar hall — all designed to inspire innovators and accelerate the startup journey.

We are proud to share that GJUAF has committed ₹50 Lakhs to strengthen this initiative — a contribution by our President, Dr. Ranjit Chakravorti, in memory of his parents, Jahnavi and Sudha Chakravorti. With an entrepreneurial legacy, Dr. Chakravorti strongly supports young minds exploring business ideas.

This collaboration marks a meaningful step toward empowering student entrepreneurs and strengthening JU’s innovation ecosystem.

GJUAF is proud to share the remarkable achievement of Buddhadev Jana, a visually challenged student of B.Ed – 1, Jadavpur University, who has won three medals at the XXV National Para Swimming Championship 2025, held from 15–18 November 2025 in Hyderabad, Telangana.

🏅 Gold – 50m Backstroke
🥈 Silver – 100m Backstroke
🥉 Bronze – 100m Freestyle

GJUAF and the Jadavpur University Alumni Association of Georgia, in partnership with Rotary Clubs in Kolkata and California, recently upgraded the Accessible Library of Jadavpur University to support higher education for visually impaired undergraduate and postgraduate students. The upgraded facility was inaugurated in May 2025 by Pro VC Prof. Amitava Datta, Past VC Prof. Bhaskar Gupta, GJUAF President Dr. Ranjit Chakravorti, and Rotary District Governor Dr. Krishnendu Gupta.

The University has now extended this facility to visually challenged students of other state universities as well. We look forward to seeing more VI students thrive in an inclusive and supportive environment.

Congratulations to Dr. Chiranjib Bhattacharjee!

We extend our warmest congratulations to Dr Chiranjib Bhattacharjee on his appointment as the new Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University. Dr Bhattacharjee officially joined his post on November 3.
Dr Bhattacharjee brings with him a distinguished history at JU—first as a Chemical Engineering student in the 1980s and later as faculty and administrator—including roles as dean, registrar and pro-VC. He has already set out with his immediate priority to restore the institution’s administrative stability and revitalize its academic milieu.
GJUAF looks forward to working in alignment with his vision — to make JU a hub of academic excellence and a safe, thriving space for students. Together, we aim to support JU in achieving greater academic distinction and ensuring a campus environment where every student feels empowered and safe.
