Hello!

After a hiatus we will be back at the Walnut Creek Farmer’s market this Sunday (8/13) to continue to build community and bring awareness to the county’s 2022-23 grand jury which investigated deaths involving law enforcement.

You can read the report here:
https://www.cc-courts.org/civil/docs/grandjury/2022-2023/2304/Report2304.pdf

If you would like to see more of your local tax dollars go into community health and enrichment keep an eye on this year’s Measure X Community Advisory Board’s allocations. There will be a public meeting on Wednesday the 16th at 5 p.m. and public comment is highly encouraged.

Hope to see you on Sunday!

This Saturday marks the tragic day when Tyrell Wilson was murdered by ex-deputy Andrew Hall.

We say tragic mindfully as his death was wholly preventable.

In the same week that we celebrate the wonderful day Tyrell entered this world, we have a civic duty never to forget the day he was shot while crossing a street, with a shopping bag containing his lunch.

Join us this Saturday, March 11th at 1 p.m. at the Danville Park n Ride on Sycamore Valley Road for a day of continued honoring and remembrance with members of Tyrell's family and the wider community.

We need to maintain his memory in this place of all places, so that the same authorities who ignored community voices calling for Andrew Hall's removal might learn to listen before tragedy strikes again.

On March 8th 1988, a beautiful life was brought into this world. His mother named him Tyrell, which means “warrior”. Tyrell Wilson was courageous, creative, and insightful. Though he is no longer with us due to racist police violence, all are invited to celebrate his life alongside members of his family and the caring people of Nami CC in Concord.

This gathering will also celebrate the lives of other men who were taken far too soon by police violence in our county: Laudemer Arboleda, Miles Hall, and Angelo Quinto.

Please come to celebrate Tyrell on his Day of Remembrance and 35th Birthday on March 8th at 2 PM at 2151 Salvio St, STE V, Concord (NAMI Contra Costa).

Also mark your calendar for Saturday, March 11th. There will be an event in Danville at 1 PM as well as the launch of a support group for families affected by police Violence, co- facilitated by Angelo Quinto’s Advocates for Change & Heling and NAMI Contra Costa.

This Sunday at 5 APTP will hold a rally in Oscar Grant Plaza for Tyre Nichols and all the other men and women murdered by people on the payroll of the state.

In two weeks Laudemer Arboleda would have turned 38 and a few weeks later Tyrell’s family will mark what would have been his 35th birthday without him.

Too many lives have been stolen. We are at a loss of what to do. If you’re in the area, show up, make connections, and lift up the names of Tyrell and Laudemer while you’re there.

As we all brace ourselves for the body cam footage to be released, the Anti Police-Terror Project (APTP) is calling for rolling protests from the Bay to Tennessee.

APTP will hold a rally and march on Sunday, January 29 at 5 pm at Oscar Grant Plaza in Oakland to stand in solidarity with the family of Tyre Nichols and to demand we put an end to police doing traffic stops in every US city.

**NOTE: This action will center Black folks standing for Black lives. Allies & accomplices welcome.**

We take the streets in Oakland because a loss of Black life anywhere is an affront to the humanity and safety of Black lives everywhere!

Here in Oakland, Black people are eight times more likely to be stopped by law enforcement than their white counterparts. Despite orders from a federal monitor and a statewide task force dedicated to ending racial profiling, OPD can’t seem to stop targeting Black community members with pretextual stops. We call for an end to police doing traffic enforcement in every US city, and an end to police terror, period!

See you in the streets!

Head's up about this open mic in our region hosted by the San Ramon Valley Diversity Coalition.

We are excited to hear that will they honor Gigi Crowder of NAMI Contra Costa, a woman who has fought tirelessly for the mental health of our county's most vulnerable population.

Some of us attended last year and were impressed to see the youth turn out, the Danville Town Council, and Chief of Police there. It is a great opportunity to remind them that they need to take concrete steps to memorialize Tyrell and Laudemer, two men killed in our town on account of the color of their skin.

Regarding the policy prompt, this is also a golden chance to bring up Police/Sheriff oversight and funding for an African American Holistic Wellness and Resource Hub; both county-level initiatives that attendee Sup. Candance Andersen is uncomfortable with.

Make bold demands in honor of Dr. King!
