We had a fabulous visit from Martha Washington, the first, First Lady to the Judge Samuel Holten House, owned by the GIP Chapter of the NSDAR in Danvers. She entertained Dr. Holten over Christmas while in Philadelphia during the second Continental Congress and wanted to visit the house having learned it dated to the 17th century! Martha is also a member of the Chapter 😉

HISTORIC PRESERVATION THRU THE LENS OF FEMA
presented by Melissa Surrette, GIP Chapter member

Melissa works for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and will share her knowledge of natural disasters during the Revolutionary era and give an overview on environmental and historic preservation efforts of historic structures and properties impacted by natural disasters.

Fun Fact: Though FEMA wasn’t officially established until 1979 during the Carter Administration, the history of the Federal government helping states during natural disasters dates back to at least 1803 when Federal bonds were issued to the city of Portsmouth, NH after a devastating fire that threatened the seaport and commerce of our newly founded nation.

Hope you can join us! Message for a zoom link if you can’t be with us in the person!
