Nice article in Southern Living about the shoal lilies! They're approaching the end of their blooming now in Anthony Shoals. Go check 'em out if you haven't seen them this year!!! Trail access via the wildlife management area - trail that BRWA installed there is flagged from the "parking area" down to the lilies.

The shoals spider lily, known as the Cahaba lily in Alabama, only blooms in three Southern states and for a few weeks a year. Here's how to find the rare beauty.

While the shoal lily float is off this year, there's still some celebrating to be done -- Wuxtry Records is 50! Congratulations to Christina Cotter and Dan Wall and all of the Wuxtry crew for this milestone and our sincere thanks for your support of BRWA. Proceeds from this birthday bash will help support BRWA's water quality monitoring efforts.

Sadly, we're having to cancel the shoal lily float given the extremely low water levels. It's not safe for paddling through Anthony Shoals to get to the lilies. See attached link for directions to the Wildlife Management Area where you can self-guided walk down the trail BRWA installed to get to the lilies by land.

We've been closely following the weather forecasts and regularly going down to the river to check water levels. Unfortunately, our best efforts to summon some water from above have not yet yielded the desired effect. The picture above shows where we were last week. Given the low water levels, it's ...

Thanks to Anna Izquierdo and the Madison County Journal for covering our recent Run for the River 5k and Polar Plunge. Good time had by all, despite the sloppy conditions.

Special thanks to our event sponsors: Old Guard Graphics, Timberbilt Construction, Graham Law Firm, Panther Creek Hammocks, Thrive Integrative Medicine, Architectural Collaborative, Chronic Design, Pretty Cool Music, Broad River Bee Collective, Jane Priester Handmade in NYC, and the Peyton Ferry Farm.

The idea to host a 5K race and polar plunge came to Quint Newcomer after completing graduate school where he was affiliated with the Natural Resources Council of Maine.
