Mariner Juniors Mariner Junior news, updates, and events. For many years we have received requests that we allow youth younger than 14 years old to join the Mariner program.

Due to insurance constraints this is not possible. In response to the demand for a program for middle school aged youth we introduced Mariner Juniors. The Mariner Junior program continues to grow! Mariners is a Sea Scout group that was started over 30 years ago by Jim Wehan, currently skipper of the ‘Spirit of Dana Point.’ It is a co-ed boating program for young people ages 14 through 18 and the M

ariner Junior program is for those 12-14. Both are designed to allow young people an opportunity to have fun with their friends in sailboats of all sizes at a very low cost. Through a carefully developed program, participants progress from what knowledge they have about boating upon joining the program (sometimes knowing nothing) to being competent in handling sailboats of all sizes. The Mariner Program is fun, exciting and competitive. It allows for an independent choice of activities and it is flexible so that a young person can join and still have time for school, job and/or sports and other school related activities.

The Cardboard Classic and Dinghy Dash is on for tomorrow morning! You can still get a crew together and test your skills at building a boat that can float, made of cardboard and duct tape!

Mariners are an amazing group of Co-Eds assembled from our local Middle and High Schools. Great program for kids 12-18yrs old. They learn to sail along with some many other handy life skills. Gets them outside and on our beautiful ocean as well. Community Service Hours opportunities each season and looks great on applications.

Mariners is an amazing co-ed BSA organization, both for kids (12-17 yrs) and parent volunteers. Discover new skills and friendships to last a lifetime. Get your whole family involved and set sail!
Mariners has fall and spring seasons. The Fall season runs from September to November, and the Spring season runs from February to April.
During each season we have meetings every Wednesday evening (6:30-9pm) and typically have regularly scheduled Saturday morning/afternoon activities.
Throughout each season the Mariners participate in competitions with other Ships and crew their own boats on multiple cruises to Catalina, Channel Islands and sites beyond!
Come join us at the Dana Point Sea Base and learn about this fantastic experience.
