Our Sorrento students have officially arrived, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to Southern California as part of the Dana Point Sister Cities cultural exchange! 🇺🇸🤝🇮🇹

Over the next two weeks, they’ll experience some of the very best our community has to offer—from catching waves with surfing lessons 🏄‍♂️ girlinthecurlsurfshop, paddle boarding with WestWind Sailing & Paddling and spotting whales off our beautiful coastline 🐋 Dana Wharf Whale Watching to exploring Hollywood 🎬, Disneyland, the OC Fair & Event Center, making lifelong friendships, and creating memories they’ll carry home to Italy.

This exchange is about so much more than sightseeing—it’s about building connections, sharing cultures, and fostering friendships that span an ocean.

Follow along as we share highlights from their Dana Point adventure. We have a feeling it’s going to be an unforgettable one! 💙

Italian American icon Armand Assante is officially set to narrate the upcoming feature documentary, "The Streets of Little Italy: 100 Years of San Gennaro." 🎬

Directed by Paul Borghese, this film will show the incredible journey of how a tiny, immigrant religious procession on Manhattan’s Mulberry Street evolved into the world's most famous and attended Italian feast.With Assante’s legendary voice guiding the way, this is going to be an absolute must-watch for the community. 🇮🇹🇺🇸

Four local high school students will head to Sorrento, Italy this summer!

Four local high school students will head to Sorrento, Italy this summer through the Dana Point Sister Cities Student Exchange Program, where they will spend two weeks exploring the region and living with the Italian pen pals they have spent months getting to know before later hosting those same Italian students in Dana Point. https://danapointsistercities.org/art-across-the-sea/ Dana Point Sister Cities will launch its inaugural Speaker Series on Thursday, March 12, with an evening celebrating the power of art to connect communities across oceans. The event, From Dana Point to Sorrento: Art Across the Sea, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dana Point Community House and will feature acclaimed artist Mia Tavonatti, creator of Dana Point’s iconic Stairwave mosaic at Lantern Bay Park.

Spanning 364 feet across 118 stairway risers, the Stairwave mosaic is one of the city’s most recognizable public art installations. Composed of ceramic tile and fused glass, the colorful wave design reflects Dana Point’s coastal identity and creative spirit.

Tavonatti, who now lives and teaches art in Italy, will share the inspiration behind the Stairwave, discuss her artistic work abroad, and reflect on how art can serve as a bridge between cultures. Her experience living in both Dana Point and Italy highlights the shared creative and cultural connections between Dana Point and its sister city of Sorrento.

Guests will enjoy an artist presentation, wine and light refreshments, and an interactive art experience designed to bring the community together.

The Speaker Series is a new initiative by Dana Point Sister Cities, an organization dedicated to fostering cultural exchange between Dana Point and Sorrento through student programs, community events, and international partnerships. Proceeds from the event will support future cultural and educational exchanges.

The evening is made possible through the sponsorship of OC Supervisor and Vice Chair Katrina Foley .
