RISE (Rare Insights, Solutions, Empowerment) is a global initiative of Genetic Alliance that works to eliminate barriers to genomic testing by expanding access to clinical-grade genomic sequencing and other high-impact genomic diagnostics for patients with suspected pediatric-onset rare genetic diseases. RISE focuses on individuals from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and communities.
Through this Request for Applications (RFA), Genetic Alliance seeks to identify clinical laboratories capable of performing long-read whole genome sequencing (lrWGS) using Oxford Nanopore Technologies platforms. Selected laboratories will receive support to expand access to testing for underserved populations using ONT-based genomic sequencing.
In return, participating laboratories will commit to providing no-cost, clinical-grade genomic testing for undiagnosed patients referred through the RISE clinical network.
This partnership will help expand access to genomic diagnostics for underserved populations while contributing to a global effort to diagnose children with rare genetic diseases and improve clinical care.

1. Provide clinical-grade genomic testing using ONT sequencing workflows; or be in the process of establishing clinical-grade genomic testing using ONT sequencing workflows, with a defined implementation plan and timeline.
2. Hold accreditation or certification from a recognized regulatory or quality standards body (e.g., CLIA, CAP, ISO 15189, or relevant national equivalents).
3. Offer clinician-ordered testing that includes, at minimum, detection and interpretation of single nucleotide variants (SNVs), small insertions and deletions (indels), and copy number variants (CNVs), with interpretation of potentially disease-causing variants and delivery of a clinical diagnostic report.
4. Be able to support associated operational costs if RISE provides sequencing reagents, sample preparation materials, cloud storage, and/or analysis software to enable testing for patients from participating clinical sites.
5. Demonstrate capacity to support testing volumes of at least 50 trios per year.
6. Agree to provide no-cost genomic testing for patients and families referred through the established RISE clinical site network.
