My Mom likes to say that the concept for Inn Along the Way has been perking in me for most of my life. Though I don't know that this is true, I do like what theologian Fredrick Buechner once wrote, "vocation is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet." It is from this deep gladness that I serve and host. My husband and I opened our first home - a sailboat - to family, f
riends and the 'stranger' over three decades ago. Hospitality - I find it interesting that the word hospitality derives from the Latin hospes meaning 'host', 'guest', or 'stranger - the hosting of others, has been our trademark ever since. And now we want to open the doors wider still. Our vision for Inn Along the Way is to build a vibrant, inter-dependent community where living and dying can become a richer, fuller, and more human experience. The campus will include a dozen or so small, long-term homes for those who wish to remain engaged in this inter-dependent community. In addition, we will host four on-site hospitality cottages. These will be made available to the public for short-term use, providing rest and respite for caregivers and their loved ones. After the initial expense of the land and improvements, it is our intent to become more financially self-sustaining and less dependent on major fundraising through the public support of an on-site Inn, cafe, tea room, and art center, as well as the long-term housing. Please feel free to contact us with any thoughts, questions, or suggestions. With gratitude,
Sherry Flint
