Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust Your community land trust, caring for the lands, waters, and communities of the Damarsicotta region.

Coastal Rivers, formerly Damariscotta River Association and Pemaquid Watershed Association, is a nonprofit conservation land trust connecting our communities with our lands and waters. Coastal Rivers works throughout the Damariscotta-Pemaquid region in the towns of Damariscotta, Newcastle, Edgecomb, Nobleboro, Bristol, South Bristol, Boothbay, Bremen, and Waldoboro. We’re celebrating more than 50

Nest rafts provide a safe place for loons to raise their chicks when natural shoreline habitat is threatened. By supporting loon conservation efforts and respecting nesting areas, we can help ensure future generations continue to hear the iconic call of the loon across our lakes each summer.

Thanks, Tami and Dennis for your help getting this raft launched on Muddy Pond!

Vernal pools play a key role in the health of woodland ecosystems. These seasonal wetlands come from snow melt and spring rains, and provide essential habitat for amphibians like salamanders and frogs to lay eggs, such as these spotted at Hart Woods!

In her latest Nature Note, our naturalist Sarah Gladu explores how vernal pools are at the heart of annual life cycles and nutrient cycles in our forests.
