Hearty Roots

100 Main St, we’re coming your way! Stay tuned, Damariscotta. Something good is growing here.

We’ve been trying to put words to what happens when young people step outside, slow down, get a little muddy, take a risk, and find themselves surrounded by people who believe in them.

But sometimes, you just have to see it! We are so excited to share a little glimpse into the heart of what we do, why we do it, and what becomes possible.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to Alex Bertoni of Strega Studios for capturing our people and our mission with so much beauty, care, and heart.

Two things are happening here. First, our leadership team had an epic two day retreat on the river at our beloved board member’s camp ‘Bigma.’

Second, when you spend all of your time in the woods, you compensate for it by trying out ALL of the special effects you’ve been missing out on.

Here’s to celebrating what we’ve built, learning and growing through the ups and downs, and dreaming big for the next chapter as we head into our tenth trip around ☀️☀️☀️!

Stepping into novel outdoor spaces sparks neuroplasticity, triggering a rush of all the ‘feel goods’ that support memory, learning, and adaptability. Plus it’s POV GOAT, or so that’s what the young people tell us.

This crew is taking novelty to a whole new level on their week-long coastal expedition in Muscongus Bay. Sea kayaking, island hopping, tent camping, campfire cooking, preserve exploration, and even building custom benches from floating timbers they ‘harvested.’

We’re seeking a creative, mission-driven storyteller who can move between graphics, media, outreach, communications, and merchandise. This is an exciting opportunity to build systems from the ground up, and shape how Hearty Roots is seen and understood as we enter into an exciting new chapter of growth. Full job description on our website!

Adventure is for Every. Single. Body. 💛

Sunbeam is built around one simple idea: every young person deserves the chance to experience the magic of being outside, making friends, trying new things, playing hard, slowing down, and belonging.

We remove barriers and adapt the experience so that all kids can fully participate — because those experiences aren’t extras. They’re essential to growing up.

And every single body at Sunbeam, from their head to their toes, knows this to be true: there’s a place for me here. ☀️

Science tells us that just 2–3 days immersed in nature calms the nervous system. It’s also boatloads of fun, with a hefty dose of challenge.

A mini trip in Munscongus Bay is the perfect introduction. This awesome, hilarious crew kayaked to Hog Island. Slept under the stars. Played in the tidal zone where the pace is set by crabs and tides. Hammocked. Journaled. Hiked. Laughed. Ate like royalty.

The goal isn’t just getting kids outside. It’s helping them discover that nature is always there when they need it. Even in short, salty weekend getaways.

Cam Shelton in all of his red dirt southern glory, is coming to Maine for an epic Hootenanny to benefit Hearty Roots. Join us at Glidden Point Oyster Farms for a pig roast and a boot scootin’ darn good time on September 3rd. Pearl snaps and Stetsons welcome too.

So very grateful to the 375+ women who care of Lincoln County.

💙 This is what collective giving looks like.

Because of the generosity of our members, Hearty Roots received $16,533 to continue strengthening our community and supporting those they serve.

Every meeting reminds us that meaningful change doesn't require a huge commitment—it just takes people who care. In just one hour, our members come together to learn about local nonprofits, vote, and make a lasting impact across Lincoln County.

To every member who contributes, volunteers, and believes in the power of collective giving: thank you. You are the wave of change.

Together, we're proving that when women unite around a shared purpose, incredible things happen.

💚 100+ Women. One Hour. Big Impact.
