We are still buzzing with energy from "Raising Capital: What Small Businesses Need to Know to Grow in 2026," our special event in partnership with City National Bank, at Riverside City Hall on February 11. From the packed house to the vibrant conversations, it was clear that the spirit of entrepreneurship in the Inland Empire is alive and well.

We were honored to welcome "California's Banker," the Honorable Fiona Ma, CPA, California State Treasurer, as the event’s keynote speaker. Treasurer Ma provided great insights into how we can recycle our dollars within California to keep our economy growing. Treasurer Ma was introduced by our gracious host, Riverside Councilmember Clarissa Cervantes. In addition, the opening included remarks by Pacific Community Fund CEO Filiberto Gonzalez and City National Bank Vice President Jennifer Ceballos Zamora.

True to the name of the event, City National Bank's Jabari Grant and Pacific Community Fund's Imelda Siocheng provided a deep-dive presentation on what small business owners need to know to prepare for financing in 2026. Based on the feedback, entrepreneurs and bankers alike were impressed by their presentation! But the magic didn't just happen on stage! The networking sessions before and after the event were electric. It was inspiring to see so many entrepreneurs connecting, sharing ideas, and building the networks that make our communities thrive.

PCF extends its most heartfelt special thanks to City National Bank for its partnership and commitment to community lending. If you were not able to make it, but would like to learn more about the presentation, please reach out to us here. Make sure to follow PCF right here on Facebook to stay up-to-date on future workshops, funding opportunities, and community highlights. A special shout-out to our event vendors: Zacatecas Cafe, Stephen Lam Photography, and Riverside Mission Florist!

This October 2025, we join the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) in celebrating Filipino American History Month (FAHM) under the theme: "From Quotas to Communities: Filipino American Migration and Movement." This year marks the 90th anniversary of the 1935 Filipino Repatriation Act, a xenophobic law that failed to significantly decrease the Filipino population, and the 60th anniversary of the landmark 1965 Immigration & Naturalization Act, which eliminated racist national origin quotas. This latter law spurred a massive growth in the Filipino American population, which surged from 176,000 in 1960 to 775,000 in 1980, and stands at over 4 million today, making Filipino Americans one of the largest Asian American and immigrant groups in the nation. And nowhere in the U.S. is the vibrancy and culture of the Filipino people more alive than in our home state of California.

The spirit of building communities and seeking justice continues through organizations like Pacific Community Fund (PCF), a nonprofit community lender founded by Filipino American community leaders in 2004 to ensure that language and culture were not barriers to capital. PCF continues its mission today, providing vital access to capital and financial literacy to low-to-moderate-income communities and small businesses across California. This commitment to empowerment mirrors the resilience of the Filipino American community that has historically navigated unjust systems to create spaces of belonging and opportunity.

This FAHM, we also want to give a special shoutout to Larry the Musical, a production supported by PCF, for sharing the important story of labor movement leader Larry Itliong. The musical helps teach the history of the Manong/Manang generation and their fight for labor rights, a battle that demonstrates the power of historically marginalized groups working collaboratively to challenge unjust systems.

As we celebrate the history, humanity, and contributions of Filipino Americans, let's also take a meaningful action step. Support Filipino small businesses in your community this month! By championing Filipino American entrepreneurship, we contribute to the economic strength and cultural enrichment of our nation, honoring the legacy of those who moved toward justice, dignity, and belonging.
