Thankful for the support of our elected officials. We are blessed.

On the Dalton City Council we don’t just talk about supporting our first responders. WE DO IT.

In the upcoming FY 2026 budget, we’re delivering pay raises for our firefighters, along with increased funding for equipment and training so they have what they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. We accomplished this without raising taxes on our city tax payers.

Public safety professionals show up for our community every day, often on the worst days someone can have. Taking care of the people who take care of us isn’t politics — it’s responsibility.

Local 5258 sends our thoughts and prayers to Columbia County Fire Rescue and also to the family of the fallen.

It is with a heavy heart that Columbia County Fire Rescue announces the death of one of its members, Fire Recruit Kalif Leslie Daly, who passed away while participating in our Firefighter Training Program on November 4, 2025. Recruit Daly was in the newest Recruit Class, and after not feeling well during Physical Training the morning of November 4th, he was transported to the hospital, where he later passed.

“This loss has deeply affected us all. Columbia County Fire Rescue is more than a department; we are family. The bond we share, the brotherhood and sisterhood of the fire service, is built on trust, strength, and shared purpose. Though his time with us was far too short, he will always be a member of the Columbia County Fire Rescue family,” said Chief Jeremy Wallen.

The entire department is devastated by this loss. We extend our deepest condolences to the recruit’s wife and family, friends, classmates, and department as we all grieve together. In times like this, we lean in on one another.

Columbia County Fire Rescue respectfully asks for privacy for the family and colleagues as they cope with this profound loss. We are grateful for the outpouring of support from our community and other surrounding departments during this time and ask that everyone keep Recruit Daly’s loved ones and our fire rescue family in your thoughts and prayers.

Funeral arrangements are pending, and further details will be shared once finalized.

Local 5258 B Shifters teamed up with Whitfield County Fire Department today for a great day of training. In the event we run a mutual aide or auto aide response together our departments need to be able to work seamlessly together for the best outcome for the citizens. Today the focus was primary search. Searching for trapped occupants is the most important job on the fire ground and these folks put in the work today to be prepared for that task. Special thanks to Engineer Josh Peek for leading instruction today.

Members took advantage of acquired structures to review vertical ventilation techniques today. It is always great when we can train on actual structures that resemble what we encounter on the street.
