Walking into the office this morning was great because our black Friday deals have all started coming in. I am ridiculously excited about my new weighted cow and I didn't even know that paint by sticker books were a thing I needed before today.
What did you grab for your office?

Just me prepping for Thanksgiving dinner with the family.
That bottom book is a good option to pull out if the boundaries aren't working and you just need to flip the awkward conversation on your nosy relatives.

I started my day with an early morning conversation about attachment, which is probably one of the tip 5 ways to start a day. The woman who brought up the topic was especially interested in attachment in friendships but most of my work is romantic relationships. I grabbed these books as a starting spot but I would love to hear your recommendations for attachment in adult friendships. Any format is fine. We just want to continue our deep dive.

I've shared Journey Through Trauma with several people lately and again first thing this morning. It's on of my favorite trauma books because it shows the different stages of healing and helps people make sense of what they are experiencing. It also gives a lot of hope for those in the chaotic early stages that they won't be stuck there forever.

I'd love to hear about your favorite trauma books!

I just found a doom box full of books and it kind of feels like Christmas. I was especially excited to see For The Love of Therapy and Strong Like Water because I loved both of them.

You know that scene in Legally Blonde where everything goes sideways and Elle gets so overwhelmed that she has to get an emergency manicure? It's kind of like that but with emergency bookshopping. Also, I'm pretty sure buying pretty new journals is a validated coping skill.

I just finished helping at a core skills training with in Dallas and several of us supervisors were talking about deliberate practice, which I've been really diving into lately. I'm actually using Deliberate Practice in Emotionally Focused Therapy with several of the associates I supervise and I really like the focus it is bringing to our work.
I stuck the link in my profile if you want to check it out. If you're using deliberate practice, I'd love to hear how you're incorporating it into your work.

I was in a meeting with several other therapists a few weeks ago where I found out that I was the only one without a copy of Disappointing Affirmations in my office. Because peer pressure apparently doesn't go away when you are a professional in your 40s, I now own a copy and think it is hilarious.

Just a warning, there are a lot of curse words so if your clients wouldn't appreciate that, you might not leave it on the lobby coffee table.

I'm helping at a training this weekend which meant dinner with friends then a quiet night in a hotel with a few books. I've realized I'm a mood reader which means that I have to pack enough books to have one that matches where my brain is in the moment.

Last year I started offering EFT supervision to a group of therapists who live and work on the front lines of a war zone and it was honestly a highlight of 2024. (I'm not stopping, just still incredibly grateful for the chance to work with them.) This is one of the only books I've been able to find that focuses on the civilians impacted by ongoing war. I'm actually finding it pretty difficult to locate resources for clients in ongoing, chronic trauma on general. What have you found that is helpful for working with clients who are are coping with danger that isn't going away?

I do reference and Burnout a lot but I need more.
