Mission Design LLC helps two cooperatives in Guatemala and one in the Yucatan market products in the United States. The project began when the Mo-Ranch Women's Conference began using bags from third world women for conference bags. One group from Guatemala requested help in marketing their products in the United States. While this sounded easy, it was not. Most Americans do not use tapestries or
huipils. Along with Judy Gausnell, Kay Jordan decided that the women could be helped if some of their things were modified for the American market. Working with the women the products they make are often put on bags, jackets, ponchos. At times the products are made in the United States. Other times the women make the entire object. However, this seldom works as the women do not have a real idea of the American style. A good friendship has developed between the women and Kay Jordan who visits yearly and keeps in touch weekly. Trips to the Yucatan were added in 2012. The Jordans had a former exchange daughter in the Yucatan with whom they are close, and visits to her family had taught them how wonderful handwork can be in that part of the world. Generally the women make blouses or batas of incredible quality. However, they have needed help with sizing and colors.
