What would you do if you found out your dog was struck by a vehicle and left to die?
Macha didn’t make it to her 2nd birthday because the driver that hit her ran leaving her behind in pain, alone, to die.
They could have called it into a vet or report it to local police or even animal control, but they didn’t.
She wore a collar with contact information on it, they could have called had they just stopped to even check on her, but they didn’t.
It wasn’t until after Macha was gone that a neighbor asked about her and informed them she was moving slowly up the 500+ foot driveway while Sarge, her brother dog circled her and that she looked as if she had been hit by a car — that was when things started to connect.
The drivers reason doesn’t matter.
Guilt? Unlikely, to lack the compassion to even stop rules that out.
Fear? Could have simply called it in and instead say it had been seen
“In a rush”? To put in the nicest way possible — inexcusable and again could have called it in.
There is no valid excuse.
Out of this heartbreak came Macha’s Mission | No Dog Left Behind to advocate for awareness and compassion towards dogs and the families impacted by hit and runs.
Please reach out if you or someone you know has been impacted by a hit&run involving dogs. We want to honor them by sharing it online to help others see compassion IS necessary and they are more than just pets — they are valued family members.
