We were asked to help a pregnant Chihuahua in East Texas, who had been in labor for a few days.. Elizabeth Thane Wilcher got her to Dallas Animal Urgent Care on Tues morning for a C-section, and we called our friends at Pooch Savers Rescue, because they like puppies! They quickly jumped in to help. The mom, Pretty Girl, had 8 healthy puppies, which is a big load for a Chihuahua.
Everything was looking good..
Then yesterday afternoon, mom started crashing and it was determined she needed a blood transfusion.

She was taken to Arista Veterinary and quickly received the blood she needed..

A bottle feeder from Pooch Savers/ Lisa Harf Brooks group) has the puppies and they will hopefully be reunited tonight.

So far we've spent $1482 for the C-section and about 2800 for the transfusion.

She will go back to her owner, who loves her, after puppies are weaned. She was spayed during her C-section.

As 2025 comes to a close, we are looking back at the tails we’ve wagged and the lives we’ve changed together. 🐾
Because of your support, The DAWG Project was able to:
Foster DAWG: Provide a safe haven for shelter dogs to decompress and heal outside of a kennel environment.
Adopt-a-DAWG: Find forever families for "last-chance" pups who just needed someone to believe in them. We found 46 dogs forever homes!
Lucky DAWG: Break down barriers to pet ownership by providing vetting, food, and fencing to help Dallas area families keep their beloved pets at home. We helped 300 families keep their furry friend!
Every donation, every foster home, every volunteer session and every share made this possible. You are the reason the Dallas area is closer to becoming a no-kill community. Thank you for being part of our pack! 🐶❤️
