🌾 History is blooming in the Wagon Yard at Frankford.

Long before Dallas grew around it, this was a stopping place for Native Americans and later for settlers traveling west in covered wagons. Thanks to nearby Indian Springs, travelers could rest, water their animals, and camp beneath the Texas sky. Historical records tell us that as many as 25 wagons could be gathered here at one time.

Today, the Wagon Yard is alive with Mexican Hat flowers (named for their distinctive, sombrero shape), Firewheel, Lemon Beebalm, and native prairie grasses—a beautiful reminder that this historic landscape continues to thrive more than 170 years later.

As you walk among the wildflowers, imagine the sounds of wagon wheels, horses, and travelers who once paused here on their journey west. 💚

🎶 Thank You for a Beautiful Afternoon of Music 🎶

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us at the Historic Frankford Church for Mount Vernon Music’s Clarinet Appeal concert this past Sunday.

We are especially grateful to the musicians of Mount Vernon Music for sharing their artistry with us and to all who attended, supported the concert, and helped fill the historic church with warmth, appreciation, and applause.

Events like these are possible because of people like you—music lovers, history enthusiasts, neighbors, and supporters of the arts who continue to gather in this special place and help keep it vibrant for future generations.

Spring at Frankford carries beauty in every stage. 🌾✨

In the foreground, dried wildflower stalks and prairie grasses from last season still stand tall — quietly doing important work as they return nutrients to the soil, provide habitat for insects and birds, and make way for new growth emerging across the prairie. At Frankford, we celebrate not only the bloom, but the full life cycle of the land.

Beyond the prairie, the historic Frankford Church and the Legacy House rest peacefully beneath the wide Texas sky — reminders of the deep connection between nature, history, and community that makes this place so special.

Every season tells part of the story here. 💛

🌿💜 Happy Mother’s Day 💜🌿

Today we celebrate the many forms of nurturing—mothers, grandmothers, chosen family, and the quiet, steady care that shapes both people and place.

At Frankford, hyacinths rise gently from the earth, a reminder of the beauty that comes from patience, protection, and time. Like motherhood, it’s a labor of love—tending, holding, and allowing space for growth.

To all who nurture life in its many forms—thank you. 💫

💜 Morning on the prairie 💜

Dew still clings to the grasses as Prairie Verbena (Glandularia bipinnatifida) begins to bloom—delicate clusters of purple quietly dotting the landscape.

These native wildflowers are among the first to awaken each spring, offering an early source of nectar for pollinators and a gentle reminder that the prairie is coming to life.

At Frankford, beauty isn’t just in the wide views… it’s in the details. 🌿

🌿 Layers of the prairie 🌿

Look closely and you’ll find a whole world unfolding…

Delicate white blooms of Drummond’s Onion (Allium drummondii) rise quietly among the grasses, while nearby Green Antelopehorn (Asclepias viridis) begins to form—an important native milkweed that will soon support pollinators, including monarch butterflies.

Each plant plays a role. Each season builds on the next.

At Frankford, the prairie isn’t just something to see—it’s something to discover. 🌱

🌿 Spring at Frankford: A Season of Bloom 🌿

We’re beginning a new series to celebrate the native flowers that come alive across the prairie each spring.

First to emerge—Wild Hyacinth (Camassia scilloides), rising gently through the morning dew and catching the early light. These delicate blooms are more than just beautiful—they’re part of the living story of the Blackland Prairie.

Alongside the soft lavender of Wild Hyacinth, bright yellow Coreopsis begins to appear—adding bursts of color and supporting the prairie’s pollinators.
We’ll be sharing glimpse of what’s blooming… an invitation to slow down, look closer, and experience the prairie as it unfolds.

Stay tuned 🌱
