Dallas Area Rocket Society ~ We are one of the largest, and the oldest Texas chapter, of the NAR (National Association of Rocketry.) Operating since 1972.

We are one of the largest, and the oldest Texas chapter, of the NAR (National Association of Rocketry.) Operating since 1972, we have been promoting sport and hobby rocketry throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex nonstop for over 50 years. While launching/flying rockets is our primary activity, our presence also reaches out into the community in other ways. Our outreach programs work with the Scouts, YMCA, 4H, as well as many local schools and educators, to encourage the next generation of Texans to pursue their interest in science, math, aerospace or engineering. And, kids always fly free! The general public is always welcome to attend any of our launches, bring your rockets and join in the fun. Our members will help you fly everything, from the smaller Estes and Quest model rockets up to custom built high-power rockets reaching altitudes in excess of a mile.

**Breaking News** Arlington zombie/model rocket launch
News from David....

Saturday 17 October from 10AM till 2PM. D impulse limit as always at the NW Green Oaks location.

http://dars.org/Site-Arlington.html

There will be plenty of sunlight so I think that we will be safe from werecows and zombies.

The rocket shown above is the "Gargas Paradox". It was designed by Bill Gee (member and Secretary of DARS.) The fins and black nose rocket are taken from the club logo.

The October Gunter launch (Oct 17) has been canceled.

Due to the number of cattle (and issues with the pasture), the land owner has asked we wait until November to launch.

Arlington rocket launch, maybe.....
Words from David Schultz (the one that sets up the launch)

Sunday, 4 October from 10AM till 2PM. D impulse limit.

Current status is a superposition of states from too dry to too wet. We will have to wait for the wave function to collapse to know for sure.

Lots of rain in the forecast this week so stay tuned.

**REPEATING words from Sam the VEEP

Just to be clear, there is NO launch in Gunter this Saturday (9/19).
Reasons ?:
- historic drought
- field covered with dead grass
- county burn ban in effect
- 100+ degrees
- common sense

I'm posting this for those of you that didn't want to be "that person" who asked the question and look like you haven't been keeping up with the news and life in North Texas for the past 3 months.

So, take this time to do some rocket building in the AC. We do have a contest scheduled....whenever we get to launch again. The details can be found on the website...front page....www.dars.org.

We (mostly Jack) has been sorting through items and putting things back on the shelves after new floors. He came upon a newsletter that had this picture in it. This is a "Throw back Thursday....but, on a Saturday" for sure!!!

Now....your assignment....if you choose to play....is name this DARS member!!! There is a prize....because I've been told...everything is a contest! You will be awarded 20 stash cash points!! That's easier than doing no range duty at a cancelled launch! Are you ready to play? Just let me know below. You have until next Saturday, Sept 19....7pm to put you answer. Then we'll take all the correct answers ...draw the winner. The winner will be announced on Sunday, Sept 20 at noon.

Arlington launch (Sunday, Sept 6) is a "no go....standing down!"

Here's the info from Dave Schultz (the one that organizes the Arlington launch).

" Not happening.

While there is a chance of rain, it isn't likely to change things. It certainly will not cause Tarrant county to cancel their burn ban.

It would be nice to be worried about too much rain..."
