Families Out Loud is reclaiming “Nuclear Family Month”.

Here’s something worth knowing: “nuclear” actually comes from the word “nucleus” as in, the core of a cell. The part that carries the genetic material. The part that, for so many of our families, was coaxed, retrieved, fertilized, and transferred by a team of doctors who believed our family was worth building.

Nobody understands the nucleus better than we do.

Every family built with hope, intention, and an almost unreasonable amount of love is nuclear in our book. No asterisk. No qualifier. Two dads, two moms, single parents by choice, donor-conceived, surrogacy-built, all of it counts.

Families Out Loud believes the stork looks a little different for everyone, and that’s kind of the whole point.

So many families begin with IVF or surrogacy, with an egg or s***m donor, with adoption or foster care, or with a quiet leap of faith and a lot of waiting. There is no single right way to get here. The roads look different, but they lead to the same place: a child who is loved and a family that is yours. However you build yours, we are here for it.

This month we celebrate every family on every path to parenthood, and we want to take a moment for all of the surrogates and donors who make LGBTQ family building even possible.

For so many in our community, the dream of becoming a parent only becomes real because someone chose to show up with extraordinary generosity and selflessness. Surrogates carry our hopes. Egg donors, s***m donors, and embryo donors give a piece of themselves so that families can begin. They are not a footnote in the story of LGBTQ parenthood. They are the heroes of it. 🏆
