We are proud to celebrate Tara Chisholm, Asst Director of Housing for receiving the June Bucy Award for Excellence at the Texas Network of Youth Services (TNOYS) Conference.

This prestigious award recognizes executive leaders, managers, and supervisors who demonstrate program excellence, leadership, and significant contributions to the field of youth services across Texas and beyond. Named in honor of June Bucy, a pioneering leader in youth services and former Executive Director of the National Network for Youth, the award reflects a commitment to advancing opportunities and outcomes for young people.

The conference also highlighted the importance of youth voice and leadership. We were honored to have Tre'Anthony Howard, a TRAC youth and member of the TNOYS Youth Advisory Board this past year, participate in a panel discussion where he shared his experiences as a young person who has navigated foster care. His perspective helped inform conversations about how systems and services can better support young people as they transition into adulthood.

Thank you to Tre'Anthony for sharing your voice, leadership, and lived experience with youth-serving professionals from across the state.

Together, they represent the power of partnership, advocacy, and youth-centered solutions.

Safe, affirming environments can change the direction of a young person’s future.

For LGBTQ+ young adults facing homelessness, access to respectful support systems and stable housing can directly impact mental health, safety, education, and long-term wellbeing.

Creating welcoming spaces means more than visibility. It means listening without judgment, respecting identity, building trust, and helping young adults access practical pathways toward stability and independence.

North Texas summers can be dangerous for young adults experiencing housing instability.

Extreme heat impacts physical health, mental wellbeing, transportation access, sleep, and daily safety. For young adults without stable housing, even basic relief from the heat can be difficult to access consistently.

During the summer months, TRAC continues providing support, resources, and connections that help young adults navigate immediate needs while working toward long-term stability.

Simple reminders matter this time of year:

Stay hydrated
Take breaks indoors when possible
Check on others in your community
Know where cooling centers and safe spaces are available

Stability and wellbeing are connected in every season.

June is National PTSD Awareness Month, a time to recognize the lasting effects trauma can have on mental health, relationships, stability, and overall wellbeing.

Many young adults facing homelessness have experienced trauma connected to family instability, abuse, loss, community violence, or prolonged uncertainty. Trauma can affect how someone navigates housing, employment, education, and trust in support systems.

At TRAC, trauma-informed care means meeting young adults with respect, consistency, and practical support while recognizing the experiences they may carry with them. Our focus remains on helping youth access stability, safety, and pathways forward at their own pace.

LGBTQ+ young adults experience homelessness at disproportionately high rates, often after family rejection, unsafe living conditions, or a loss of support systems.

These experiences can create barriers to stable housing, education, employment, and wellbeing at a critical stage of life.

Stable housing creates the foundation for so many other opportunities.

When young adults have a safe place to stay, it becomes easier to focus on school, employment, mental health, transportation, relationships, and long-term goals. Stability supports wellbeing, confidence, and the ability to plan for the future.

Please join us in congratulating Lauren Phillips on her promotion to Lead Housing Case Manager for TRAC's Fort Worth Housing Team.

Lauren brings more than 15 years of experience serving others through roles as a school counselor, mental health case manager, homeless services case manager, and continuity of care liaison. She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from Texas Christian University and her master's degree in counseling from Austin Peay State University.

Throughout her career, Lauren has remained committed to helping individuals navigate challenges, access resources, and move toward greater stability and wellbeing. Her leadership, compassion, and dedication to supporting young adults have made a meaningful impact on the youth and communities we serve.

After returning to Texas with her husband following his military assignment in Kaiserslautern, Germany, Lauren continued building a career focused on service, advocacy, and connection. Her passion for helping others, combined with her wealth of experience, makes her a tremendous asset to the Fort Worth Housing team.

Outside of work, Lauren enjoys spending time with family and friends, caring for her beloved pets, traveling, reading, and exploring new perspectives and experiences.

We are grateful for Lauren's continued leadership and excited to see her thrive in this new role.

We launched this campaign in honor of TRAC’s 23rd anniversary and Foster Care Awareness Month, with the goal of welcoming 23 new monthly donors into TRAC Club.

Evelyn earned her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of North Texas and her Master of Social Work from East Texas A&M University. She is passionate about helping others and values building meaningful connections through her work.

Her love of travel and learning about different cultures and perspectives has strengthened her commitment to working with diverse communities and supporting people from all walks of life.

As she begins her journey with TRAC, Evelyn looks forward to making a positive impact and helping young adults access pathways to stability, independence, and wellbeing.
