3 out 4 US firefighters are volunteers receiving little, if any, benefits. There is even a larger problem for the Line Of Duty Deaths, and support for the surviving family members. The third element is research into better treatments for burn victims. This charity support Volunteer Firefighters through supplying safety equip
ment. The federal government provides the training, but there is $5-7,000 of safety equipment required for each firefighter. This is a huge strain as many volunteer firefighters live in rural communities where incomes are extremely low. Benefits for the surviving family members when a firefighter is killed in the line of duty is a huge problem. There are one time insurance payouts, but with most firefighters working two and three jobs the impact on the family is enormous. The benefits between the various fire departments vary from pretty good to none at all. Treatment even within a department varies enormously. We support agencies that try to help those that need help the most. Through Sons of the Flag we help fund research into the treatment of burn victims. This is critical research needed to help all of us. These three missions make up our purpose. Our goal is $2M dollars a year. That equates to having each person that knows a firefighter donating a few pennies...not even a dollar. No donation is too small to make a difference.
