What Texas needs more of…

We live in a moment where it’s easier than ever to speak and harder than ever to be heard. But Texas won’t find its way forward through more competing voices alone.

It will take people willing to be neighbors first—before labels, before sides—people who choose to listen not to agree automatically, but to understand more fully what someone else is carrying when they speak.

Matthew McConaughey on something we’re not great at anymore…

It’s easy to respect people who think like us. The harder part is staying open when they don’t.

Understanding doesn’t mean agreement—it just means you didn’t stop at assumptions.

TODAY is the day, Texans!

Fewer than 1 in 20 Texans voted in the last runoffs…

That means a tiny fraction of people ended up making decisions that affect millions.

A lot of people assume runoffs don’t matter, that they missed their chance to vote, or that their vote won’t make a difference this late in the cycle. But runoff elections are often where your vote carries the MOST weight. Lower turnout means every single ballot has more impact.

And if you skipped the primary? You can still vote.

Texas saw record primary turnout this year. The question is whether that energy stops before the finish line—or keeps going when it matters most.

Because when fewer people participate, smaller and louder groups end up deciding more for everyone else.

Forget the polls—we decided to let armadillos handle election forecasting this year.

🏁 Diggie Smalls crossed the finish line first, mortgage bets were made, and absolutely no candidates were endorsed in the making of this video.

Mostly, this is just your reminder that Texas runoff elections are on May 26th, and they end up being decided by the people who actually show up. So enjoy the chaos, laugh at the armadillos, and go vote.

Politics lately feels a little like an armadillo race: chaotic, confusing, and somehow everyone’s yelling from the sidelines.

But unlike this race, the runoff isn’t just entertainment. These elections are often decided by a tiny number of people, which means your vote carries way more weight than most realize.

So whether your candidate is winning, losing, or rolling completely off course… show up anyway.

(And to be clear: this is NOT an endorsement of any candidate or party. It’s an endorsement of participation.)

The Texas math that should bother you...

Texas runoff elections aren’t decided by “everyone.” They’re decided by a tiny slice of voters.

Here’s what that actually looks like:

Picture 20 people—coworkers, neighbors, coffee shop regulars.

In a typical Texas runoff:

Only 1 votes. The other 19 sit it out.

And that 1 person helps decide who represents all 20.

Now scale it up. In a neighborhood of 200 people:

10 vote. 190 don’t.

Even people who care about local issues often skip the runoff.

Scale it up again. Runoff turnout can resemble the population of a single major city deciding outcomes for the entire state. That’s not a metaphor. That’s the math.

Here’s the part that changes things:

The people who consistently show up in runoffs tend to be more partisan and more ideologically motivated than the average voter.
And campaigns know it. When only 1 in 20 Texans votes, everyone else hands over their influence.

What to know before May 26th:

Early voting: May 18th–22nd
Election Day: May 26th

Your vote in the runoff carries more weight than it will in November.

That’s not a slogan, it’s turnout math. Fewer people show up for runoff elections, which means the decisions get made by a much smaller slice of voters.

Many people skip runoffs assuming the main election is what matters most, but in several races, the runoff is where the decision is actually made—before most of the public is even tuned in.

May 26th isn’t a footnote in the election cycle. It’s where momentum locks in and a limited number of voters shape results that ripple outward.
