October is Youth Justice Action Month, and this year's theme is Building a Future Where Youth Thrive. Our Ambassador Tristyn knows what that phrase really means; she has lived both sides of it.

This month, she writes about education, healing, community and what it actually takes for justice-involved youth to stop surviving the system and start outgrowing it. Because when we listen to young people, perspectives shift and so do futures.

Meet Stephen, an intern at Café Momentum Atlanta.
As part of Youth Justice Action Month, we're spotlighting a different voice each week. This week's theme is education and empowerment, and Stephen's story is a good place to start.

Asked what he'd tell someone considering the program, he didn't hesitate: "You should definitely join. You're surrounded by amazing people. You never know who you're gonna meet in a restaurant, as well as on the other side. It's always good to get out of your comfort zone."

That's the work at Café Momentum: paid restaurant internships where justice-involved youth build real skills alongside people who believe in their future.

Café Momentum is honored to receive Vizient's 2026 Norman Borlaug Humanitarian Award, recognizing our work alongside more than 1,700 justice-involved youth across the country.

As our Founder CEO Chad Houser told the crowd in Las Vegas; this work has always been built by the young people we serve, and this Youth Justice Action Month we're inviting everyone to help them discover what is possible.

It starts with a seat at the table. 🍽️

All month, we're sharing what that looks like at Café Momentum: education, leadership, healing and community, told by the interns, ambassadors, staff and everyone who believes that all youth deserve to dream.

Activist and advocate Alice Marie Johnson calls Café Momentum a disruptor and the data backs it up. When justice-involved youth exit detention without support, the cycle continues.

Café Momentum exists to interrupt that. Through a 12-month paid internship, wraparound care and genuine belief in every young person's potential, we're changing what comes next.

Reentry isn't the finish line. It's the starting line. This month, our Ambassador Fellow Tristyn writes about what it really takes to come home and why case management is what turns an open door into an actual second chance. Because when we listen to young people, perspectives and futures shift.
