Texans on Mission Disaster Relief teams have deployed to Louisiana after Tropical Storm Arthur left behind widespread damage and impacted more than a thousand homes.

This is a developing situation as much of the area is still flooded. Many roads are closed and many homes cannot be reached for assessment due to flooding.

A shower/laundry and electrical unit deployed this morning to help with initial recovery work. TXM flood recovery, feeding, chaplains, asset protection and an incident management team are on standby to serve in the area. They will deploy at a later date as waters continue to recede and the needs of the communities affected become known.

Please pray for those impacted and for volunteers who will meet needs at this time.

Update: Texans on Mission flood recovery teams completed work in Waco, Texas, after a flash flood overtook I-35 and several residential areas.

Several homes sustained water damage from the flood and excessive rain. Volunteers were able to remove wet furniture, possessions and sheetrock, and spray disinfectant to prevent mold from growing before the sheetrock can be replaced.

Among those served was Alisha Laws, a Waco resident of 30 years who had never experienced a flood of this magnitude. She was left to navigate the aftermath largely on her own while her husband receives care for Alzheimer's following a stroke.

"I really didn't know how I was going to fix all this," Alisha said. "It was just another overwhelming situation to think about and deal with."

Volunteers helped Alisha sort through sentimental items damaged by the water before presenting her with a signed Bible and praying together outside her home. Despite everything, Laws remains steadfast in her faith.

"He is wonderful, and he's got a plan, and that's all I know. Yes, it's hurtful and stressful for a while, but I've got peace. I'm not worried."

Texans on Mission Disaster Relief teams rolled out to Waco, Texas, this morning following severe flooding in the area.

Heavy rain and flash floods earlier this week affected most of the city in some capacity.

The rain came down so fast, the interstates were forced to close due to flooding and cars were stranded in standing water. Many homes are also in need of cleanup assistance.

A TXM box team began canvassing the Waco neighborhoods yesterday, helping homeowners safely box up their items that survived the floods.

Flood recovery, assessors, feeding, shower/laundry, electrical, electronic support, chainsaw, asset protection and an incident management team will begin providing relief once they touch down today.

Please pray for every volunteer and for those impacted.

All Texans on Mission Disaster Relief teams are on alert to serve following heavy rain and possible heavy flooding throughout Texas.

Some areas have already experienced significant flooding. TXM leaders are in communication with local partners and evaluating the needs and response that may be needed.

Last week, 65 Texans on Mission volunteers came together to serve Kerr County residents still recovering from the July 4th floods.

Across 8 projects for Revive Kerrville, volunteers worked on fences, framing, painting, trim and yard clean up, giving their time and energy to help families take another step forward.

It was a joy to see middle and high school students show up with such willing hearts and an excitement to serve. Thank you to all who participated!

It starts with one well in one community, but the impact can change countless lives.

Clean water is more than a resource. It's health and dignity. It's an open door to share the living water Jesus offers.

Through Texans on Mission's Water Impact ministry, we're building and repairing water wells in Uganda, Peru and South Sudan while helping establish Bible study groups and churches so entire communities can come to know Christ.
