Last week, TXM Royal Ambassadors held their leadership training camp (LTC) at Camp Menard in Menard, Texas.

Youth staffers from all over Texas came together for this week-long camp to learn camp craft skills like cooking, water sanitation, fire craft, and knot tying.

They also had the opportunity to go out into the community to assist in scraping old paint off a home that sustained flood damage, preparing it for the next round of volunteers to paint.

“I think the main point is to live on purpose,” RA state staffer Walker Derrick said. “Everything you do, do it for the glory of God. Even if it’s simply scraping paint off a house, do it to the best of your ability.”

The main mission of LTC is to increase the state staffers knowledge in Christ and learn how to implement leadership skills which can be used to guide other young RAs.

We think they have done an amazing job preparing them.

A great short read. We’re always eager to learn about every survivor we can here at Texans on Mission. After all, this ministry is dedicated to being there for our neighbors when we can after disaster.

Thank you, TXM Marble Falls Fire Recovery, for your servant hearts. We loved reading about your experience with Bill. God bless you!

Update: After a wildfire destroyed nearly everything in its path in the Panhandle, Texans on Mission volunteers are in Amarillo working to help residents recover.

After the fires subsided, some families and individuals returned to nothing but ash. Others were left with only remnants of their homes, properties, cars and mementos. These residents are working hard to move forward after losing so much, and thankfully, TXM teams are helping speed up the process.

Rebecca and John Cunningham, Amarillo residents for 45 years, lost everything on their property, including their parents' home, wood and welding shop, tractors, their son's auto restoration shop, their barn and a few animals. By God’s provision, their home was the only structure left standing.

"Instead of feeling alone in the journey, we had a lot of help," Rebecca said. “We're blessed to be surrounded by people that want to help — bring their supplies, bring their hearts, dive in and do what needs to be done, and so fast ... I don't know how long it would've taken us to clean this up.”

As volunteers help many others like Rebecca and John, please continue to pray for their ability to serve. Pray for those who have lost so much and for every other impacted person working to recover.

Praise Report: Texans on Mission volunteers have concluded disaster relief efforts in North Texas, completing 124 work orders after severe tornadoes struck in April.

Outside of helping families begin to return to some sense of normalcy by cutting down fallen trees and cleaning up debris, the box ministry passed out a record number of 1,795 boxes to those needing to gather and pack belongings that survived the storm.

Over 178 volunteers served across four locations impacted by the tornadoes — Decatur, Mineral Wells, Springtown and Azle, Texas. To every person who served, prayed and donated to make these efforts possible, thank you and God bless you!

This May marks a special milestone in Texans on Mission history.

In 1986, TXM volunteers built the Hospitality House in just 24 hours, creating a free place for families to stay while visiting loved ones in correctional facilities near Huntsville, Texas.

The idea for the house was first proposed at the 1983 Texas Baptist Men Convention in Amarillo, Texas. The TBM prison ministry committee brought awareness to those traveling great distances to visit inmate family members, many of whom had been sleeping in their cars in roadside parks because they could not afford motels.

Three years later, volunteers created a place in record time that continues to help families to this day. After 40 years, the Hospitality House still stands as a reminder that compassion can change lives and bring hope to hurting families.

This incredible story reflects the heart TXM volunteers have carried for decades and continue to carry today. We encourage you to read the full story by clicking the link!
