🏕️ DO YOU KNOW? | THE KUDU HORN THAT CALLED SCOUTS

Do you know that the Kudu horn became one of the most recognizable symbols of early Scouting?

This historic photograph shows the Founder of the Scout Movement blowing a large Kudu horn, an antelope horn brought back from South Africa. Its deep sound could travel over long distances, making it useful for gathering Scouts together.

The horn was famously used at the Brownsea Island experimental camp in 1907, where Baden-Powell used it to summon the boys to activities. The Brownsea Island camp is regarded as the foundation of the modern Scout movement.

Imagine hearing that powerful sound across the camp:

📯 “Scouts, assemble!”

From a simple horn came a powerful tradition of discipline, teamwork, adventure and preparedness—values that continue to inspire Scouts around the world today.

The Kudu horn was later used at Gilwell Park to signal the beginning of Wood Badge training courses.

Be Prepared! ⚜️🏕️
