AWARE North Texas

AWARE North Texas Founded in 1989, AWARE empowers North Texans to rise above Alzheimer's and dementia together. Today, men and women of all ages have joined our fight.

History
Founder Evelyn Ponder and first-elected president Cyndy Hudgins, led a small group of passionate and civic-minded Dallas women to create AWARE in 1989. Since then, AWARE has raised and donated more than $15 million in support of its mission. AWARE conducts an annual grant review process resulting in the selection of the most exemplary nonprofit organizations in Dallas and the North Texas r

egion that are working on the front lines in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. AWARE provides funding and support to those leading groups which offer programs, education, and resources to caregivers and victims of Alzheimer’s disease, and to organizations doing valuable research to find prevention and ultimately a cure. We have come a long way, but the fight is far from over. AWARE continues to expand and broaden our scope, so that what we do to fight Alzheimer’s disease has the most impact for Dallas and surrounding North Texas communities. Join Friends of AWARE now. Become part of the solution. Member Benefits

The AWARE Affair Boots, Buckles and Brain Health Patron Party was graciously hosted by Jolie and Bart Humphrey, celebrating underwriters, sponsors, patrons and supporters at different levels.

A delightful evening with the extensive back patio open to the cool weather and sunset, guest enjoyed passed hors d'oeuvres, libations, and live classical guitar.

It was an evening of camaraderie and buzz about the [then] upcoming gala and all of the surprises to be revealed.

More from AWARE Affair Boots, Buckles and Brain Health at Gilley's!

Some of the evening's highlights were the Big Board, live auction and dancing to the Breckenridge Band and a few line dancing lessons, which filled the dance floor until the lights came up.

Ann McKinley, AWARE's president, said, "On behalf of AWARE, thank you for being here tonight. Each of us comes here tonight with a different experience of Alzheimer’s, but those experiences unite us in a shared story and a shared mission.

At AWARE our mission is simple – to rise above Alzheimer’s together.

And that word – together – is everything.
Because of you, families are not walking this journey alone.
Because of you, we are funding critical research.
Because of you, caregivers are finding support and education.
And because of you, individuals living with dementia are experiencing joy, dignity, and connection.

We are in the middle of our grant cycle - Our grant committee is reviewing 24 grant applications totaling more than $780,000.
The need is REAL."

A fabulous and fun night in support of AWARE! The AWARE Affair 2026 Boots, Buckles & Brain Health A Night Rising Above Alzheimer’s Together brought smiles all around as guests were greeted by a live longhorn at the entrance of Gilley's saddled up and ready for photos! Sponsored by Reeder Capital Partners, it was a huge hit!

The gala was sponsored by Sheryl and Gary Wood, who also so graciously served as honorary chairs, and was co-chaired by husband-and-wife teams Katie and Neal Doherty and Heidi and Cole Snadon.

Inside at VIP upstairs in the Bonnie & Clyde Speakeasy, sponsors, underwriters and friends gathered together enjoying libations, passed hors d'oeuvres and planning auction bids.

A fabulous silent auction brought bids all evening long. A live auction brought down the house and highlighted David McDavid's sponsored Kim's Purple Coat of Hope, selling more than ever before.

Delicious food and specialty drinks kept the energy going. The fabulous Breckenridge Band had the dance floor full until the lights raised up and it was time to call it a night!

More to come! Join Friends of AWARE and be a part of this vibrant organization Rising Above Alzheimer's Together!
