Mette Frederiksen, Denmark’s leader, has taken big risks standing up to Mr. Trump. It might just be working — for now.

An interesting look at where people with Nordic ancestry live in the United States. The Norwegians, unsurprisingly, lead in the largely rural north, but there are more Swedish descendants in industrialized areas like Michigan and Illinois. Plenty of Danish descendants in Utah and southwest Iowa.

One of the reasons there are so many Nordic descendants in the upper 25% of the US is because James J. Hill, the American railroad executive behind the construction of the Great Northern Railway in the late 19th century, actively promoted immigration from Scandinavia.

Hill advertised in Norwegian and Swedish newspapers, offering low-cost or even free land along the railroad line.

The railway ran from St. Paul, Minnesota to Seattle, and parts of it are still in use.

🎶🎵 "Vi elsker vort land, men ved midsommer mest" 🎶

I aften bliver Holger Drachmanns Midsommervise fra 1885 sunget over det ganske danske land, når Sankt Hans bålene tændes for at fejre midsommeren.

Hvordan markerer I dagen?

Her ses Sankt Hans bålet i Rørvig.

A historic year for the Kingdom of Denmark in the Michelin Guide ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Michelin Guide Nordic 2025 has been released, and once again the Kingdom of Denmark, which includes Denmark and the Faroe Islands, stands out on the global food map 🇩🇰🇫🇴

A total of 52 stars were awarded to 38 restaurants across Denmark and the Faroe Islands. Three restaurants in Denmark maintained their prestigious three-star status: Geranium, Jordnær and Noma. For the first time, PAZ in Tórshavn received two Michelin stars, which marks a historic moment for the Faroe Islands.

Denmark also welcomed six new one-star restaurants. These include Alimentum in Aalborg and Sushi Anaba in Copenhagen. Seven new Bib Gourmands highlight affordable yet high-quality dining, and two new Green Stars recognize sustainability efforts. One of them was awarded to KOKS in the Faroe Islands.

The celebration took place in Odsherred, Denmark this year, and it will continue next summer when Tivoli and the city of Copenhagen host the 2026 ceremony.

Maybe this summer is your chance to experience New Nordic cuisine where it all began, whether that means exploring the culinary scenes of both Denmark and the Faroe Islands.
