TODAY! 🌟

Meet our fourth panelist:
Tessa Granowski (b. Waco, TX) was raised in Dallas where she recently founded Nature of Things, a space for art exhibitions and cultural events on Sale Street in Dallas and as a nomadic curatorial project with a focus on emerging contemporary artists and Texas history, programmed alongside films and books.

Previously, Granowski co-owned Brackett Creek Exhibitions, which operated spaces in Bozeman, Montana and New York from 2020-2024.

She enjoys horseback riding, long walks on the beach, and spotting birds from a moving car.

Meet the panelist:

Ryan Semegran (b. 2000, Austin, TX) is a Dallas based interdisciplinary artist and curator. Semegran’s creative practice focuses on the relationship between the body, identity, and the spiritual through immersive live performances, photography, found object sculpture,
and video installations. Their professional appointments include serving as the Curatorial
Assistant at the Dallas Contemporary and founding the project space 2 BED 1 BATH.

2 BED 1 BATH is an artist-run project space and studio residing in an 800 sqft apartment in Oak Cliff. Founded in January of 2026, 2 BED 1 BATH intends to prioritize organizing exhibitions by local and regional artists to counteract the ever existing push to defund art
spaces in Texas.

📍 The Boedeker at The Cedars Union

Meet our moderator:
Jillian Wendel (b. 2001, Wichita Falls, TX) lives and works between Denton and Dallas, TX. Wendel moved to Denton in 2021 and began pursuing a career and life in the arts.

In 2025, they obtained their MA in Art Education from the University of North Texas, where she also received a BA in Art History and Philosophy in 2023. In the Spring of 2024, Wendel founded the Shed Show, a project space in Denton, TX.

Wendel is an Independent curator and freelance writer. In three years, she has curated and organized dozens
of exhibitions across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Their praxis focuses on resourcefulness, artistic autonomy,
and collaboration; frequently working with colleagues, peers, and close friends.

Currently, Wendel works on the Visitor Services team at Dallas Contemporary and is the Gallery Assistant at
12.26, a commercial art gallery.

Description:
The Shed Show is an artist-run project space located inside a 9 x 12’ gable roof shed in a shady backyard in
Denton, Texas. Catering to local student and emerging artists, the Shed Show is a curated DIY art gallery
engaged in presenting installation-based exhibitions.

Beyond the backyard, the Shed Show hosts workshops and lectures, circulates social-advocacy resources,
and is working to open a publicly accessible library featuring catalogs, novels, in-print publications, and
more.

Upcoming exhibitions include Carla Hughes’ thesis exhibition, “Death to Whiteness,” and “Placed Plainly Here and There,” a duo exhibition by Kaylyn Beam and Joseph Schuler.

In May, the Shed Show will host its annual backyard art market and celebrate its two-year anniversary as a project space.

We can’t wait to see you at the this Saturday, April 4th, from 11-12:30pm for a panel discussion about “The Rise of Unconventional Art Spaces”.

Meet one of our panelists:
Brent Birnbaum opened Cheerleader in Dallas in November 2025. He previously directed Walter’s (2021-2023) inside the Walter Elwood Museum in Amsterdam, NY, and was “Cutting Edge” according to ARTnews.

Birnbaum’s first project space was Topless
with Jenni Crain in Rockaway Beach, NY. They received “Best of 2015” in Artforum, and in 2016, Roberta Smith stated in The New York Times, “the outlier of all outliers here is “Topless.”

Brent has also been exhibiting his own work for over 20 years. Recent shows have been with Galerie PJ in Metz, France, in 2025 and at Kunsthalle NĂĽrnberg in 2026.

He is represented locally by Keijsers Koning.

Description of my space:
You must cross over two sets of railroad tracks to reach Cheerleader’s barn doors. The 10-foot by 10-foot threshold is inviting to all art goers, alley cats, and dirt blowing in from the adjacent unpaved roads. The gallery is a place to gather in community to support
local artists and discover voices from farther away who deserve a show.

Meet one of our four panelists for the upcoming discussion, “The Rise of Unconventional Art Spaces”.

Originally from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Fernando Alvarez moved to North Texas in 2006.

Shortly after moving to the United States, Fernando began his artistic practice, receiving his BFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Texas in 2014, and an MFA in Studio Art from Texas Christian University in 2022.

His concept driven work uses his displacement from Honduras to discuss broader themes like paranoia, culture, and class; often using a humorous or flippant attitude at his own expense.

Through an interdisciplinary practice, Fernando
examines the eccentricities of his background to better understand himself and the subcultures
he navigates.

Fernando is also a co-founder of Easyside, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Easyside is an art space in East Forth Worth providing career resources for artists, as well as addressing food access and food equity in East Fort Worth.

Currently, Fernando is an Assistant Curator of Education at the Modern Art Museum of Fort
Worth.

Easyside:
Easyside is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit nurturing artists and their neighbors through food, workspaces,
exhibitions, and education.

One of our favorite things: artists in conversation about their work. There’s nothing quite like hearing the story behind a piece straight from the artist who made it❤️

One of the best parts of Texas Vignette? Meeting the artists behind the work🎨

Sophia Anthony makes tightly constructed paintings of figures in uneasy atmospheres, pulling from cinema, art history, and found photography. Her work explores masculinity and psychological tension through varied painting techniques.
