To everyone who attended and contributed to yesterday's Credo's concerts, THANK YOU. In a world that feels truly divided, you all chose to gather, to listen, and to share in something really meaningful and from the heart.

This concert was never about taking sides, but rather about telling the story of a nation through its music, honoring both the beautiful and the complex.

At its heart, this concert was about community, dignity, and shared humanity. It was about our belief that when we sing together, we listen differently, see each other more clearly, and we remember that there is still much worth celebrating.
Thank you for being part of this powerful day!

Hope you enjoy this 15-minute concert highlight reel.

BTW, we are a NON-AUDITIONED choir that rehearses just two Sunday evenings each month - 9 rehearsals per concert series! Member ages span from 12 to 94!

It’s hard to ignore how divided things feel right now. Everywhere we turn, there seems to be pressure to choose a side, take a stance, draw a line. This concert is not that.

Saturday’s America Sings 250 is something different. Our concert is a reminder of who we are at our best. It is a celebration of the voices, stories, and music that connect us rather than separate us. For 250 years, American music has reflected struggle and triumph, heartbreak and hope, and above all, a shared humanity that is still very much alive.

You will hear melodies you know and love. Music from West Side Story and Ragtime: The Musical. The soaring power of Total Praise by Richard Smallwood, featuring our extraordinary guest artist Darian Sanders, who many will remember from his national tour as Simba in The Lion King. And you will hear Brandon Boyd's Redeem the Dream, a brand-new work that sets the words of Langston Hughes to music – with the composer at the piano!

But more than anything, you will experience what happens when people come together to sing, to listen, and to share something meaningful. This concert will celebrate 250 years of music that is beautiful, worthy, joyful, and American.

Join us. Bring someone with you. Be part of it.

See you at the show!

"Historically, women sang in homes, in churches, and even in gatherings by rivers and while traversing across the plains. In this concert, Credo will carry the stories of countless women who have fought for their rightful place, whose voices were often silenced, and whose dreams were too often ignored. Through music, women found ways to be heard when doors were closed.

Even today, from the battle for equal pay to the fight for reproductive rights, the struggle is ongoing. We should stand in the legacy of those struggles, knowing that the power of music continues to inspire change and build solidarity.

As the poet Audre Lorde once said, "I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own." These words remind us that the fight for equality is not limited to one woman or one group. It is a collective struggle for the rights of all women, regardless of race, background, or circumstance. This is not just about gender, but about human rights.

Credo, in all its diversity, reflects the strength we find when we come together — each of us contributing something unique, yet creating a collective sound that is far more powerful than any individual note.

Change does not come from silence. It comes when ordinary people find the courage to stand, to speak, to sing, and to be heard.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our concerts on May 9th."

We are living in a moment of real division. Voices are loud, yes, but often unheard and ignored. It would be easy to present a simple program celebrating America’s 250th birthday and leave it at that. But that’s not who we are, and it would not be enough.

At , we believe music has a responsibility. It must reflect the full truth of who we are, not just the comfortable parts. This program is not a single story. It is a tapestry of voices, perspectives, and experiences that together shape the American narrative.

Before you read the words below, we invite you to engage with them openly. You may find affirmation. You may feel challenged. Both are part of the work, and both are part of what we will share on May 9.

On May 9th, we invite you to experience America Sings 250, a program that reflects on our nation’s past, present, and future through music.

This concert is a celebration of who we have been, who we are, and who we are still becoming. From the familiar strains of 'America the Beautiful' and 'Simple Gifts' to the energetic melodies of 'West Side Story' and 'Ragtime: The Musical,' this program honors the musical traditions that have shaped generations.

At the heart of the program is 'Redeem the Dream' by Dr. Brandon A. Boyd, a compelling musical journey that weaves together words from the Declaration of Independence with Langston Hughes’ poignant 1936 poem 'Let America Be America Again.' Through a series of movements, the work explores the promise of America, the lived realities of its people, and the enduring hope that our nation can continue to grow into its highest ideals.

We hope you will join us as we offer an extraordinary collection of music that honors our history and inspires our future.

See you at the show!

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR:

Dear Singers, Patrons, and Friends of Credo:

I so look forward to welcoming singers back into our rehearsal room tomorrow evening! It's not too late to register - link below.

Yesterday, I received an email from a current singer who openly and thoughtfully expressed their concerns about our spring program - "America Sings 250" - in light of "heightened tensions and divisive rhetoric" in our country. I really appreciated their honesty, and I am grateful this person felt comfortable sharing their hesitations with me.

I completely understand why a program that centers on America might give pause in the current climate. That concern is real, and they are not alone in feeling it. I want to be very clear about the spirit and intention behind America Sings, because context truly matters here.

This program is not a response to today’s political moment, nor is it meant to promote any ideology or administration. Rather, it is a broad, reflective celebration of our nation’s 250-year story told through music, poetry, and shared cultural memory. It looks backward as much as it looks forward, drawing from our foundations, our legends, and our collective hopes.

The repertoire includes familiar folk melodies and anthems that have been sung for generations, alongside texts that invite reflection and honesty. Langston Hughes’s 'Let America Be America Again,' written in 1936, is central to the program precisely because it acknowledges both aspiration and struggle. It reminds us that loving a country does not require ignoring its darker chapters. Those moments are part of our history, too, and they cannot be erased. Instead, they help shape our understanding of who we are and who we hope to become.

My hope for America Sings is that it creates space for singers and audiences, regardless of political perspective, to stand together and reflect on a shared story. This is music meant to hold us up, not divide us. It is about people, not politics. About community, memory, and the enduring power of voices raised together.

Your presence in Credo matters - every one of you - and I truly value the care and thought each of you brings into the room. Whatever you decide, please know how grateful I am to stand with you.

Registration is still open!
