A Gene Present in Half the Population Can’t Be Causing a Condition in Three Percent

The genetic variants associated with autism are common — found in roughly a quarter to half of people, not the small fraction you would need for them to be deterministic. That arithmetic alone rules out genetics as a standalone explanation and points toward interaction with something else. Prenatal exposures are one place worth looking: some anticonvulsants carry well-documented neurodevelopmental risk, and other psychiatric medications taken daily through pregnancy are studied far less than their rate of use would justify.

Present Safety Data at a Conference and the Response You Get Is Autobiography

The data goes up at a standard academic meeting. People come to the poster. And the responses that come back aren’t about the methods, the denominators, or the case definitions — they’re about the listener’s own decisions and how they intend to proceed regardless. Nobody is challenging the finding. That is what a field looks like once it has quietly stopped treating a question as open.

Twice a Day, Nose and Throat — The Hygiene Step Nobody Teaches

Respiratory viruses land in the nose and throat before they do anything else, which makes those surfaces the one place a person can intervene before an infection takes hold. A saline nasal spray and a gargle, twice a day — plain salt water, salt water with a few drops of iodine, or a xylitol-based product. Randomized work on saline irrigation and gargling has shown shortened illness duration. It costs almost nothing, and nobody is taught to do it.

If a Study Stops Looking Before the Diagnosis Usually Arrives, It Won’t Find It

The follow-up window is one of the quiet determinants of what a study is capable of concluding. Autism is typically diagnosed between ages three and four — a study that tracks children only to age two and a half cannot count what it never waited for. Inclusion criteria work the same way: change who qualifies and you can change the answer without altering a single data point. These are standard threats to validity, and recognizing them is how you tell a strong study from a convenient one.

A Food Compound at Therapeutic Dose Is Not the Same Thing as the Food

Eat a full bowl of pineapple and you take in roughly 40 milligrams of bromelain. A concentrated extract delivers 500. Bromelain is FDA-approved as a drug for wound debridement in burn units. Nattokinase has published work behind it on carotid plaque. Curcumin is used for inflammatory arthritis, and India averages two to four grams a day through diet alone. The compounds are familiar. The doses are not, and that distinction is the whole point.

Before the Testosterone Injection, Find Out Why It’s Low

Low testosterone usually has upstream causes that are fixable: excess body fat converting testosterone to estrogen, untreated sleep apnea, chronically poor sleep, alcohol. Injections don’t correct any of them. What they do is shut down the body’s own production while they’re being used, with real consequences for fertility that often aren’t explained up front. That’s a trade worth understanding before you start, not after.

There Are No FDA-Approved Indications for Cord Blood Stem Cell Infusions

Stem cell transplant is real medicine — for leukemia and lymphoma, from bone marrow, with decades of evidence behind it. The clinics selling cord-blood-derived infusions for fatigue, joints, or long COVID are selling something with no approved indication for any of those uses. Cardiology studied cell therapy for the failing heart exhaustively and it did not deliver, with arrhythmia signals appearing in some trials. People are paying tens of thousands of dollars.

The People Who Took It Are the Least Likely to Report a Problem With It

Nearly every sustained safety concern has come from people who declined the product. That isn’t a coincidence, and it carries a consequence almost nobody accounts for: passive surveillance depends entirely on the exposed population noticing something and filing a report. If the people carrying the exposure are the least motivated to go looking, the system under-captures no matter how well it was designed.

A JAMA analysis drawing on twenty years of Swedish data across millions of children found no association between acetaminophen use in pregnancy and autism. The decisive element was the sibling comparison: same mother, same father, one pregnancy with Tylenol and one without — and no difference in outcome. Women who take it regularly through pregnancy are typically managing chronic pain with other medications as well, which is what the earlier studies were actually detecting.

Mast Cell Activation Is the Mechanism Behind Symptoms Nobody Can Name

Mast cells and basophils are packed with histamine, and when they’re triggered they release it — flushing, itching, congestion, blood pressure swings, tachycardia, insomnia, anxiety. That is exactly the picture a large number of post-COVID patients walk in with, and it gets filed under a dozen different labels. Antihistamines manage the symptom. The question almost nobody asks is what is keeping those cells activated in the first place.
