In case you didn't make it to FICPFMovement's Nashville convening where formerly incarcerated and directly impacted leaders, organizers, advocates, families, and movement partners traveled from across Tennessee, across the South, and from around the country to spend the weekend together, to connect, strategize and build, it was truly a successful and inspiring "family reunion"! The south definitely showed it had something to say!
5 of our board directors (Serenity Pearls, Chalana McFarland Cosby, Dena Oaa, Tabatha Trammell & Waleisah Wilson - Menefee), traveled to Nashville to support our founder as one of the opening panel speakers and to connect and strategize with other southern region movement builders where, throughout the convening, attendees dug into voting rights, civic participation, directly impacted leadership, and the work ahead across Tennessee and the region and then participated in a day of action through text banking and a march at the Tennessee capital. Over 142,373 texts were sent to Tennessee residents and participants advocated at the Capitol for the restoration of voter rights to more than 456,000 Tennesseans who are locked out of the ballot box!
Our board directors, Tabatha and Waleisah, were the recipients of FICPFM's Community Commitment Award, honored for their fierce leadership and dedication to the the work they do in the movement, not for the income but for the outcome! Congrats! Well deserved!
