This week we studied blades, knives, sharpening, hatchets, axes, and saws along with all safety requirements and safe handling. We also studied and practiced sharpening. Here is an overview https://scoutsmarts.com/totin-chip-guide/ and key items noted for further amplification are:

1. Your circle is also designed for safe work, safe whittling, and safe cutting. When another person enters your circle and breaks it, its then time to stop carving and cutting since THEY ARE inside your circle. Danger. This is why a circle is important.

2. Axes and hatchets are to be sheathed at all times. If an old axe or hatchet you bought at a garage sale doesn't have one, this creates a great opportunity for a leather making project.

3. The rules of Scouting and books are backed by over 100 years of research, lawsuits, legal findings, research, accidents, loss of life, injuries, proceedings, judgements, and recent case law. This research conducted comes from 57 million current Scouts worldwide at scout.org and other cases outside of Scouting and is not subject to reinterpretation, private rules, and made up requirements. Remember, the insurance policies maintained by Scouts BSA are not to be violated or you may find yourself held personally liable under criminal or civil penalties. I am happy to share some news from Hollywood today with “Vulnerable Innocence”, written and directed by Canadian filmmaker Dr. Charlene Doak-Gabauer, has received 34 awards at international film festivals.

Doak-Gabauer is the Canadian Ambassador to the United States Presidential Service Center, a teacher, and a computer science expert. She is the author of “The Internet: Are Children in Charge?”

Piedmont Council Shooting Sports team will be conducting Rangemaster Training, May 4, 2024 at Camp Bud Schiele. There will be an online component on May 1, at 7:00 p.m. Rangemasters will be able to run a BB and Archery Range for district/council events. RSVP today.
