Hailed as Dallas’ “shining star”, Bruce Wood Dance is an award-–winning contemporary dance company founded in 2010 by nationally acclaimed Texas artistic director and choreographer Bruce Wood (1960–2014). Bruce Wood Dance has been recognized as Best Dance Company by D Magazine in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2021 and Best of Dallas Voice 2014–2018 and 2020. Bruce Wood Dance has performed across Texas, at the Joyce Theater in New York City, at Jacob’s Pillow’s Inside/Out Performance Series, and other festivals in New York, Ohio, Washington D.C, and Tulsa.

She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from The Juilliard School in 2021 under the direction of Alicia Graf Mack.

During her time in New York, she had the honor of performing as the “Chosen One” in Martha Graham’s Rite of Springand worked with esteemed choreographers such as Bryan Arias, Andrea Miller and Matthew Neenan.

“Room to Dream Big: Melissa M. Young leads Bruce Wood Dance Dallas into the future”, full feature at the LINK IN BIO.

“What draws me as a curator is pushing expectations—of the dancers, of the audience, and sometimes even of what we think dance can do,” Young says. “I want audiences to discover just how far out onto the edge these dancers can go. It’s easy to think, ‘I’ve seen this company. I know what they can do.’ I want to keep challenging that assumption by placing them in work that reveals something we haven’t seen from them before—another dimension, another quality, another way of communicating.”

Recognized for his proficiency in Ballet, Jazz, and Modern, he received the “Triple Threat” award from the School of Dance. As part of the university’s touring ensemble, he performed at venues including the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and The Joyce Theatre.
