Here’s a recent update from Gloria, President of JTCCC:

Hello La Bajada, West Dallas. Gloria here with your May 2026 Bataan update. Congratulations to our new LBNCA board members on your new roles. I look forward to our continued collaboration.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers during these difficult times. My family and I appreciate it. My sister-in-law is now at peace, and we are adjusting and missing her deeply.

The West Dallas Unity Pavilion was a tremendous success; we had over 200 guests join us in celebrating the new space. We began with a beautiful tree planting ceremony in collaboration with the Texas Tree Foundation. Volunteers and residents alike joined us in this memorable occasion. We planted 15 new trees on site. The celebration for the West Dallas Unity Pavilion consisted of a jazz quartet, dance workshop, African drums, folklorico dancers, and more. We had the classic VW vehicles on site and had lots of field activities for all ages. Our amazing UTA Lab design student volunteers were recognized and thanked for their hard work. Our bellies were blessed with tacos, quesadillas, hot dogs, burgers, and more. The event concluded with moms being surprised with a small token for Mother's Day.

Inside Bataan:
We are excited to kick off the repairs inside the center. Permits and drawings are being prepared. I will be sharing an updated draft of the inside layout on my next update. We are currently connecting with contractors to obtain estimates and project timelines. I will share videos and updates via social media and at the La Bajada Neighborhood Community Association meetings.

Outside Bataan:
The paint removal process is still going. We had hoped to have the building completed by June. However, due to the weather, we are pushing it to June. A big thank you to Tony Carillo for fixing our mailbox; it looks great! John and Jimmy have been working on maintaining the outside fields and fencing. They will be working with Tony to keep up the baseball field.

Upcoming Events:
We will be hosting the 2026 Veterans’ Day celebration. I will be meeting with Ronnie Mestas in a few weeks to discuss the plan and needs for the celebration. Please save the date, Nov 8, 2026.

FYI: I will be traveling to Guatemala from Wednesday, May 27, to Tuesday, June 2.

*Saturday, May 16th, 2026 – Dallas Bike Ride Traffic Notice (La Bajada / West Dallas Area)

Hi everyone! I’m trying to notify La Bajada residents in advance so you all can plan accordingly and avoid being stuck in delays, road closures, or running late to work/events.

The attached traffic guide labels the impacted area as “West Dallas,” but several closures and traffic impacts will directly affect the La Bajada neighborhood and surrounding areas during the Dallas Bike Ride on Saturday morning.

Please review the attached maps and closure timelines ahead of time if you plan on traveling that morning.

A new chapter for La Bajada starts now. 📖✨ So much love to everyone who joined us at the West Dallas Unity Pavilion Celebration. With the Bataan Center back in action, our community is more united than ever. This is only the beginning!

Robert Wilonsky writes:
A couple of Saturdays back, I was driving through those worn-out West Dallas warehouses slathered in graffiti — Fabrication Yard, it’s called, so named for the street that runs through it. One left turn and one right later, I wound up back in the old Argos concrete plant across from Trinity Groves on Singleton Boulevard. Someone had rammed through the gate meant to keep cars off the property.
