October: bourbon season, football, cooler weather. What a month!

We’re ten days in, but we kicked off the month with an epic bottle share and Texas BBQ from Zavala's Barbecue. Our bottle pull raised $2,000 for the Zavala’s Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) that supports restaurant-industry people battling cancer, in their own lives or their families’ lives.

If you’re ever in Grand Prairie, swing by Zavala's Barbecue for some great ‘cue! 🥃

RR13YR (or 15YR) is a release we all look forward to each year. This year’s is Batch 7 and is part of the tribute to Eddie Russell’s 45th Anniversary at Wild Turkey Distillery. With some 14YR to 18YR bourbons in the batch, and at 121.2 proof, this year’s release is said to be slightly sweeter and with less oak than prior releases. No matter — we’re pretty sure we’ll enjoy this batch 😆.

We’re excited to dig into this bottle and cheers Eddie to 45 years at one distillery — a feat not reached by many. Cheers! 🥃

Are you fan of Augusta Distillery? We are now! 🥃

Yesterday, at one of our favorite spots, Billy Can Can, we had a tasting with Augusta Distillery. Shoutout to the amazing food and quality of service at Billy. They don’t miss!

The tasting lineup consisted of the Augusta Small Batch, Augusta Wheated, Old Route 8YR, Buckner’s 10YR and Buckner’s 13YR. Right off the bat, we were impressed that the entire lineup was cask strength and had solid age statements. We started with the Old Route 8YR and its depth of flavor and classic bourbon notes were impressive — it drank much older in a good way. The Augusta Small Batch, which is truly a small batch of only 6 barrels, was one of our favorites. Well-balanced and not overpowering at 116.9 proof, this was phenomenal neat and in the Iron Ranger and Old Fashioned cocktails we had. With a $60 MSRP, if we see this on the shelf, it’s an instant snag. The Wheated was light, crisp and slightly baking spice heavy on the finish. Some of our crew thought it was similar to WFP.

We then pivoted to the Buckner’s and both the 10YR and 13YR slapped. The 13YR is a bourbon drinker’s cask-strength-cherry-bomb-golden-dagger type of pour. It was lights out fantastic and the star of the night. The 10YR was delicious too and crushable even at a high proof.

Suffice it to say, we were impressed by the diversity of the lineup and consistent quality of the cask strength proof across the portfolio — nothing punched too hard and each bottle has its strengths. Cheers! 🥃

Is this the best cask strength rye to hit the market since Booker’s Rye? Some on the bourbon streets say it is. 20 years old and 137 proof — we’re hoping this doesn’t hold up to the hype, ha. There are only 1776 bottles of this out in the universe. LTO! But when this hit DTX, we had to snag one for the crew.

We’re cracking this for the OU/TX game and will share a review post-haste.

What’s your take on this release? Is it all hype? 🥃

So you’re at a bottle share, and someone rips out a random dusty decanter and says it’s Stitzel-Weller juice from 1986 that was found for less than a bill — and then clarifies he found three of them for a TOTAL of less than a bill. Buy a lotto ticket, sir! One was finished this evening. 🫡

This bottle is particularly fun because it was released to celebrate the 150th anniversary of The Alamo. (Not gonna lie. Had to google sesquicentennial. 🤣)

The lineup for this bottle share didn’t disappoint and featured some of our favorite pours, including our recent Reveries pick. Check out our link in bio to snag one. 👊🏼

Back in the day, we’d run around hunting down Belle Meade Bourbon cask strength picks, especially the 10YR, 11YR and 12YR barrels. Legendary picks, these were.

With Belle Meade Bourbon back, we’re excited to have picked a BM barrel that will drop later this year. 🔥 In the meantime, we had to hunt down the Wh***ey Houses’ 10YR pick. Ain’t it a beaut? We’ll be cracking this one soon.

Are you a fan of Belle Meade Bourbon? 🥃
