As first responders and family members, we are often the first line of defense for the people closest to us.

We notice the early changes.
The stress building.
The quiet days.
The moments when someone does not seem like themselves.

Taking care of our people does not mean having the perfect words. It starts with paying attention and being willing to step in.

3 simple ways to help:
1. Notice the change
Look for isolation, anger, exhaustion, or pulling away.
2. Start the conversation
Do not let “I’m good” be the end of it. Ask again.
3. Stay connected
Follow up, sit with them, and help connect them to support.

⚪️ASIST, Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training, gives our peer support team practical tools to recognize when someone may be at risk and step in with confidence.

⚪️This 2 day certification helps our members move past “checking the box” and into real conversations that can help keep someone safe.

⚪️For a fire department, this strengthens our ability to take care of our own before stress, trauma, or silence turns into a crisis.

🎊 Dallas Fire-Rescue x R3
RESPOND. RESTORE. RESOLVE. 🎊

R3 continues to create value for our members by providing retreat opportunities for them and their families to step away from the everyday stressors of work and life, and take time to restore.

The R3 Program is designed to help members address moral injury before it becomes a crisis.

A new website has also been launched to give our members another way to access resources, learn more, and dive deeper when they are ready.

Handling the stressors of the job looks different for everyone. What may not weigh heavily on you may affect your peer in a completely different way.

Max shares insight on how he manages the daily stressors of the job, along with his experience as a combat veteran and the things he witnessed while deployed. He also speaks on the importance of not feeling like you always have to be “macho,” and why it’s okay to reach out, show emotion, and talk through what you’re carrying.

The message is simple, get it out now instead of letting it build. Max is here, and you don’t have to carry it alone.

đź’«Peer Team Member Spotlight đź’«

He works at one of the busiest stations, Station 11, and it fits him perfectly. The pace and responsibility match who he is and what he brings every day. A true leader who shows up, sets the standard, and elevates everyone around him.

Confident, a devoted father and family man, and someone who genuinely cares about people. He does the work with no excuses and leads with purpose and heart. Through his years as a captain at the DFR Training Academy, he’s built meaningful relationships across the department. Wise under pressure and never one to complain.

What truly sets him apart is that he isn’t loud or dominating. He listens, gives you a voice, and makes sure you don’t walk alone.

This is Capt. Acuna of Station 11 and the DFR Peer Support Team.
