CNSF provides transformative summers for children and teens affected by poverty and disability.

At camp, they experience summers filled with friendship, adventure and personal growth that open new possibilities for a more hopeful future. The Camp Nebagamon Scholarship Fund provides transformative summers for children and teens affected by poverty and disability. Contributions to the Camp Nebagamon Scholarship Fund support tuition scholarships at non-profit summer camps that specialize in serving youth who experience poverty and disability. Children and teens who receive our camp scholarships develop skills and values needed for success at camps where they are among peers, specially trained counselors, mentors and role models. Founded in 1947 by Muggs Lorber and administered by Nardie and Sally Lorber Stein for 50+ years, the Camp Nebagamon Scholarship Fund is a growing force for good among alumni and friends of Camp Nebagamon. Recipient camps are located near cities where Nebagamon campers live. Donations may be made online via https://www.cnscholarshipfund.org/donate

The CNSF Board met this weekend in Minneapolis for a productive retreat and had the pleasure of hearing presentations from two camps supported by CNSF: Camp Bob Waldorf and Camp Twin Lakes. We're looking forward to another impactful year of helping send children and teens affected by poverty and disability to the camps we support. 🏕️Camp Spotlight🏕️ As summer comes to an end, we’re highlighting Sherwood Forest, one of the incredible camps supported by CNSF.

Located in the St. Louis region, Sherwood Forest serves children from low-income households as well as campers with physical and intellectual disabilities. Through an active, supportive learning environment, campers build confidence while developing skills in healthy risk-taking, problem-solving, teamwork, and character.

A camper shares that, “Camp forced me out of my comfort zone and helped me learn to go with the flow, which made me feel like I was growing as a person.”

The camp also inspires a love of reading, math, and STEM—helping campers build skills that can open doors and create brighter futures.

🏕️Camp Spotlight🏕️ CNSF Board Member, Frank Sachs, had the pleasure of visiting Camp Helen Brachman this summer.

Camp Helen Brachman serves campers from urban Milwaukee that come from low-income households. Their impact supporting kids reaches beyond the summer camp experience! This camp provides outdoor recreation while strengthening literacy and encouraging healthy physical, nutritional, social, and emotional choices.

A parent shares that “Camp has provided my son with experiences in nature he would have never had, and I would not have been able to provide as a single mom. It has also helped my son to discover new skills.”

🏕️Camp Spotlight🏕️ Camp Phoenix, our recipient camp in Memphis, is part of the year-round Boys & Girls Club program. They serve campers from low-income households and offer recreation aligned with the programs that support educational and professional outcome goals.

A Boys & Girls Club program director shares that campers “really enjoyed Camp Phoenix this year as always! I love the fact that our club members have a chance to disconnect from the city and put away all electronics and become one with nature. From hiking the trails and obstacle courses, to the water activities in the beautiful lake, our members got to experience nature in a safe way. Huge thanks for always making it safe and fun for the kids.”

We love knowing that the funds we raise make a difference every summer. Thank you for helping us support Camp Phoenix!

🏕️Camp Spotlight🏕️ This summer, CNSF Board Member, Adam Kaplan, got to visit Camp Wawbeek. Camp Wawbeek runs an incredible program that provides individualized personal care, emotional, behavioral, and social support, along with adaptive and accessible recreation. Most importantly, it helps campers build confidence and overcome challenges in a supportive environment. This CNSF recipient camp serves campers with intellectual and physical challenges as well as from low-income households.

After his visit, Adam shared that he “was really excited about how many of the campers wanted to engage with him to tell him how much they loved Camp Wawbeek and what a difference it made in their summers.”

🏕️Camp Spotlight🏕️ Board member, Joe Laskin, visited our newest recipient camp this summer. Camp Bob Waldorf, in the Greater Los Angeles region, empowers young people with the tools, support, and sense of belonging they need to thrive—from elementary school through college and beyond. They are driven by the values of community, identity, inclusion, and respect.

Joe learned that, “During an annual camper survey, children were asked what they were most excited about in returning to camp, and a few of the campers said they were most excited ‘to have three meals a day.’ This simple yet powerful response highlights the important role the camp plays in serving children who might otherwise not have access to a full summer camp experience. It also underscores the alignment of Camp Bob Waldorf’s mission with the values of CNSF, emphasizing specialized care, support, and opportunity for campers of all backgrounds.”

Camp Bob Waldorf serves campers that come from households experiencing significant economic hardship. Through transformative camp experiences, youth build confidence, independence, leadership skills, and lasting connections that support their personal growth both at camp and throughout their lives.

🏕️Camp Spotlight🏕️ Here at CNSF, we love making camp accessible for every child. Camp Courageous, one of our 13 recipient camps, provides adaptive recreation, social connection, and exciting adventure experiences for children with intellectual and physical disabilities.

With 100% of campers living with intellectual and physical challenges and 75% receiving means-tested tuition assistance, scholarship support helps make these transformative camp experiences possible for families who need them most.

A Camp Courageous camper shares that, “Camp is a judgment-free place where I can challenge myself, learn empathy for other campers and create lifelong relationships with both campers and counselors. Camp is one of the only places I feel like I can be myself. Camp is a part of my tribe and family.”

🏕️Camp Spotlight🏕️ This summer, CNSF Board Member Troika Brodsky had the opportunity to visit Happy Hollow Children’s Camp and see our impact in action.

Happy Hollow provides transformative outdoor experiences that encourage exploration, connection, and self-discovery—helping every child build confidence and reach their potential. This CNSF recipient camp serves campers from low-income households, ensuring more children have access to the life-changing experience of summer camp.

Troika shares that “these kids are getting a concentrated wilderness experience for one week a year that gets them out the city and off their screens - that alone excites me. The camp is celebrating their 75th year this summer which is incredible and speaks to the quality of the work they are doing and the support they see from the community.”

🏕️Camp Spotlight🏕️ We’re proud to support Camp Joy, one of our recipient camps, which serves youth in foster care and other underserved communities. Through transformative camp experiences, campers build leadership, teamwork, goal-setting, and healthy relationship skills in a safe, supportive environment.

Every camper served comes from a low-income household, making donor support critical to ensuring these life-changing experiences are accessible to those who need them most.

A Camp Joy parent shares that their child “returned from camp brimming with excitement and stories of new friendships, outdoor adventures, and personal growth. She is more self-reliant and handles everyday tasks with greater responsibility and maturity. It’s remarkable how a few weeks at camp can foster such significant personal development. I am sincerely grateful for the tuition support as I would not have been able to provide her with such a transformative experience.”

Every child deserves the chance to experience the joy and growth that summer camp provides. Together, we’re helping children build confidence, resilience, and brighter futures—one summer at a time.

🏕️Camp Spotlight🏕️ This summer, CNSF President Amy Foxman had the opportunity to visit Camp Summit and see the impact of our mission firsthand.

“From the laughter and excitement of Pool Day to the smiles shared throughout camp, it was a wonderful reminder of the joy that camp brings to every child,” Amy says.

Camp Summit creates a barrier-free environment where campers are celebrated for their abilities—not their disabilities. With specialized equipment, compassionate staff, and inclusive programming, campers can build confidence, make lasting friendships, and experience all the fun and adventure that summer camp has to offer.
