139th House of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The “Light” of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, shined brightly one afternoon on November 5, 1932. I.

Brothers, who had over the years migrated or come back to Dallas after college, saw the need to organize a graduate chapter. The vision and persistence of Brother H. Holland birthed the second oldest graduate chapter in the state of Texas. The earlier years of the chapter were years of development and identifying with the community’s social and economic needs. The Brothers quickly became involved with the Negro Voters League, the Urban League, the Milk Fund Program, the YMCA and the N.A.A.C.P. Not only were Alpha men members of these organizations, but also they were the front-runners in that time. As the legacy of Alpha Sigma Lambda Chapter still prevails 75 years later, we the Brothers of this great chapter remain steadfast in scholarship, community involvement, our national programs and service to all mankind.

Aicha Davis is a former educator and current Texas State Representative for District 109, with a longstanding focus on education and community service. Before joining the Texas House, she served six years on the State Board of Education. During her first legislative session, 11 of her bills were signed into law, and she was recognized as Freshman of the Year by both the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and Texas Legislative Progressive Caucus.
