Liberty Junior High School in Whispering Hills was built in 1974, which makes it over 50 years old. Richardson ISD is planning to demolish it and build a new middle school building on the south end of the property, with the entrance facing Whispering Hills. The new Principal, Chris Gibson, has big plans for improving student scores. To pay for the new school, they are proposing a bond that will go up for a vote this November.

Listed below are the dates for upcoming bond meetings open to the public where you can learn more. This would be a pretty significant change for our neighborhood even if you don't have kids so consider attending a meeting or reading up!

Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m. - Lake Highlands Elementary
Sept. 23, 6:30 p.m. - Richardson North Junior High
Sept. 30, 6:30 p.m. - Parkhill Junior High
Oct. 2, 6:30 p.m. - Richardson West Junior High
Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m. - RISD Administration Building Auditorium
Oct. 16, 6:30 p.m. - Westwood Junior High

Based on the recommendations of a community bond steering committee, RISD trustees on August 7 voted to place three bond propositions before voters as part of the November 4 election.

The Whispering Hills Neighborhood Association will hold its annual meeting at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, at the Liberty Junior High School Library. Park in the east parking lot and enter from that door.

At the meeting, WHNA members may vote for the 2026 WHNA Board. Nominees are as follows:

Vice President - Davene Morgan
Secretary - OPEN
Treasurer - Cynthia Houck
Member-At-Large - Michael Lanham
Immediate Past President - Keli Kincaid

The Lake Highlands Public Improvement District is teaming up with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department and the Dallas Police Department to host a free shredding event this weekend. Neighbors may deliver up to two file boxfuls of documents to be professionally destroyed free of charge.

The Safe Shred event will run from 11 to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center, 9940 White Rock Trail. Participants may drive through and drop off their items on the Church Road side of the building.

It’s not necessary to remove staples, paper clips, metal strips from hanging files, manila folders, paper board legal binders, spiral notebooks or thick plastic sheet protectors.
Prohibited items include ring binders, cardboard, books, plastic, x-rays, batteries, combustible items, cell phones, key fobs, remote controls, electronics, cables, computers, syringes, glass, cans, cardboard tubes, ink and toner cartridges, nuts and bolts, soiled or oily paper, trash or food.
