No one captures why SPAN's work matters better than the people who do it.

As volunteers, Rachel and Scott put it, "Volunteering with SPAN has shown us how something as simple as helping someone care for their pet can make an enormous difference in their life. Our clients love their animals just as deeply as we love ours, and knowing that we're helping seniors keep that companionship, comfort, and joy in their homes makes every hour we give to SPAN meaningful".

Soon, Dawn will celebrate one year of volunteering with SPAN, and in that time she has made a profound difference—especially for her client, Betty, and Betty’s beloved animal companion, Sugar.

As Dawn shares: “When I retired two years ago, I was looking to serve animals. Wow….I found a beautiful opportunity with SPAN, providing food delivery and basic vet care for seniors’ animals. I get to meet the animals and their parents—such caring people. I enjoy visiting with all of them. It’s a gift to me.”

That gift provides comfort for Betty, whose pet now receives consistent nutrition and basic veterinary support thanks to Dawn’s reliable visits and genuine connection with both the animal and the owner.

NO SENIOR SHOULD HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN TAKING CARE OF THEMSELVES AND TAKING CARE OF THEIR “BEST FRIEND”
