Rebuilding the walls β€” one Saturday, one stud, one swing of the hammer at a time.

This spring, several of our men gave their Saturdays to partner with , Carpenters for Christ, and Highland Park United Methodist Church to help build a home for a family in our city.

There's something fitting about men who are rebuilding their own lives picking up tools to help build a home for someone else. That's the heart of Nehemiah β€” restoration that doesn't stop with you. You receive grace, then you turn around and pour it into the next person, the next family, the next neighborhood.

Grateful for partners who make room for our men at the job site, and for guys willing to give up a Saturday to serve.

Tomorrow morning. 8 AM. You don't want to miss this.

There's nothing quite like watching them march in.

Heads up. Shoulders back. Brothers on every side. Men who walked in broken β€” walking out free.
Come witness what God has done.

"You meet God with how bad you are."

Not how good you've been. Not after you've cleaned yourself up. Right there β€” in the mess, in the truth, in the part you've been hiding.

That's the posture this place runs on.

No pretending. No performing. Just men who've learned that vulnerability isn't weakness β€” it's the door. And when you walk through it honestly, you find there's nothing standing between you and God.

Screw up? Run back. That's the whole model.

"Oh my God, I love you." That's where it ends up. Every time.

Everyone knows addiction is a national crisis. What we don't talk about enough? How to actually help someone we love through it. πŸ’›

If you've ever watched someone you care about struggle and felt powerless, this is for you. Five honest, practical ways to show up β€” without burning out or making it worse:

1️⃣ Get educated β€” understanding the disease changes how you respond
2️⃣ Lead with compassion β€” addiction is a medical condition, not a moral failing
3️⃣ Drop the "overnight fix" expectation β€” recovery is a long road
4️⃣ Help without enabling β€” consequences can be part of healing
5️⃣ Care for yourself too β€” you matter in this story

For over a decade, Men of Nehemiah has been rebuilding the lives of men torn apart by addiction in Greater Dallas β€” through clinical care, discipleship, structure, and community.

Save this for when you need it. Share it with someone walking this road. 🧱

You can't build recovery on a lie.

Many men don't walk through these doors ready to be honest. They walk in the same way they survived outside β€” performing, deflecting, keeping the real story locked down. It worked long enough to keep them functional. Until it didn't.

Truth isn't where recovery ends up. It's where it starts.

Before the program. Before the brotherhood. Before any of it β€” a man has to be willing to face what's actually true about himself. The wreckage. The patterns. The version of himself he's been hiding even from the people closest to him.

That's the foundation. Everything else is built on top of it.

We believe every man deserves the chance to stand on something solid.

Yeah... we turned "Brick House" into a worship song. And honestly? It goes hard.

This is what masculine praise looks like at Men of Nehemiah. Loud. Unashamed. A little unexpected. All for Him.
Because when you've been delivered from the kind of darkness these men have walked out of, you don't worry about looking cool. You praise with whatever song is in your chest β€” even if it used to play on a different kind of dance floor.

Col. Louis says it best: the secret sauce is praise.

And tonight, the secret sauce had a funk bassline.

"You loved me when I couldn't love myself."

He walked into this program with his head down, ready to white-knuckle it alone. No interest in making friends. No room for connection.

Then God put a roommate in his life.

A man with a Bible worn down from reading. A stack of books 20 inches high. Up before sunrise β€” on his knees in prayer so deep he didn't even hear the door slam.

"The world is full of people who claim to know God. I think you were strategically placed in my life so I could see for myself what a man of God actually looks like."

That's what brotherhood does here. It doesn't just recover men. It reveals them to each other.

"God's got a crazy sense of humor. He put a bunch of recovering addicts right in the belly of the beast β€” and told us to clean it up."

Davis Gardner Jr. spent his first weeks at Men of Nehemiah picking up the aftermath of South Dallas streets. Used needles. Liquor bottles. Torn clothing. Evidence of the same darkness he'd just walked out of β€” scattered at his feet.

A week later, he and his brothers would clean it again. And a week after that. And again.

But Davis caught something most men miss.

"God puts us right in the belly of the beast of it all β€” where all the chaos is transpiring. And our new building is being built right there on that same street. He put it right there in the pits of hell where it needs it the most."

Then he held that up against the garden.
"To go to a garden, plant seeds, and watch life come about β€” the vegetation, how it nourishes the body. A different kind of soil. The analogy between the two β€” it's night and day. This is how God works. He shines a little sun on it, gives it water, and this is how things grow. It takes time."

The street and the garden.
The concrete and the soil.
The wasted life and the growing one.
Same God working both sides of the same block.

That's recovery. That's Men of Nehemiah. That's why we're still building right where we are.

God is not finished yet. πŸ™Œ

What He’s done at The Men of Nehemiah this past year has left us in awe.

Lives that addiction had written off β€” restored. Families that had been torn apart β€” reunited. A building that was once just a vision β€” rising from the ground. 2025 has been a year of His faithfulness, and we are simply grateful to bear witness.

The fruit of His work in 2025:
β†’ 61 men graduated β€” more than any year in our history β†’ 38,500 hours immersed in Scripture, discipleship, and counseling β†’ 62,300 meals shared around the table β†’ Sober living expanded so more graduates can keep walking with the Lord β†’ $21.3M of $21.7M raised for our new headquarters β€” and we’ll cut the ribbon THIS FALL

β€œThank you for giving me this chance to become the man of God my family needs me to be. Most importantly, I have a renewed relationship with God through Jesus Christ.” β€” 2025 Client

When the love of Christ meets real commitment, nothing is beyond hope. To every donor, volunteer, mentor, and friend who has stood with us β€” thank you for believing that broken lives can be made whole. All glory to God.
