Spreading the Warmth

Spreading the Warmth It only takes one act of kindness to make the world a better place.

Spreading the Warmth is a purposeful community organization whose members distribute handmade scarves, hats, and shawls throughout the world as acts of kindness. Spreading the Warmth promotes these kind acts by encouraging knitters and crocheters of all ages to create scarfs and then distribute them in their communities by simply saying, "I made this for you."

I was so touched by Mary Martin Cochran’s kindness this morning. She greeted me at her church in Talihena, Oklahoma with this N**i resistance hat she had crocheted for me. Mary has already contributed so many beautiful pieces to our organization; we are so great for her!

Friends,
We just received one of the best pictures/letters ever! Every year for the past eight years we have sent approximately 150 scarves through the Burks and the Unsung Hero Fund to servicemen and women in the Army in various countries around the world. This year, they were sent to Germany where they were quickly used by so many. Thanks to board member Janis Dworkis for making this connection with the Burks years ago.

For many years, Tanya Nguyen has knitted some of our most beautiful scarves. Today before my husband Scott’s shoulder surgery, I had to give two of hers to his outstanding surgeon, Dr. Raynor, and to Scott’s kind nurse Kayli who told us that pink was her favorite color. 💗
Thanks, Tanya, for the great work you continue to do for our organization!

Our wonderful Cornerstone Kitchen representative Patsy Meier just sent this picture of a very grateful homeless scarf and hat recipient standing with all her worldly possessions. She loved the purple!
We gave 60 scarves and hats to the soup kitchen this past week.

I just saw this on board member Trish’s page and had to share it. Knit/crochet for others, and you will live longer!

Scott and I just enjoyed a yummy brunch at Cindi’s—first meal out since the weather event!—and Juanita was SO appreciative of the beautiful scarf 83-year old Randy made! So excited I can now keep speading more kindness and warmth! Let me know if you need a bag of scarves to help spread it even more.

So glad we already had given out almost 1,000 scarves, hats, and shawls this season before this super cold weather hit!

Just loving this so much—the pink scarf made his day!

Our new fields coordinator in Austin, Kelly Combiths, was thrilled to start giving out our scarves and hats to the previously homeless at the Community First Village where she lives and works. Everyone in the communities live in tiny homes of between 200-300 feet! This past weekend, we donated 100 scarves/hats to them. It will be under 30 degrees there this weekend—a perfect time for them!
