Halperin Park Takes Step Towards Opening. The Council unanimously approved investing $8 million in Halperin Park using Oak Cliff Gateway TIF and 2012 Bond funds. Until now, this project has been overwhelmingly privately funded, but the city’s most recent contribution will help ensure the park opens on schedule in the coming months. I’m so excited to see this new community amenity provide green space to an underserved area in District 1, bridge our neighborhood’s connection to the Zoo, and reconnect communities that were divided by car infrastructure many decades ago. Thank you to Halperin Park’s leaders and donors for investing in the southern sector.

Heads up! Construction on I-30 will be going on through 2030. Time to learn alternative routes!

DALLAS TRAFFIC ALERT:

Beginning today, January 16, the Texas Department of Transportation will begin construction on I-30 in Downtown Dallas. All east and westbound lanes will be closed between I-35E and the I-45/U.S. 75 interchange, and TXDOT will install a detour at Spur 366 Woodall Roger Freeway and IH 35E. For worker safety and your safety, and the safety of other drivers, please avoid these roadways until construction ends Monday morning, January 19th.

This is part of the ongoing I-30 Canyon corridor improvement project.

2026 Dash for the Beads

Get ready to Dash for the Beads! This beloved Oak Cliff tradition features a chip-timed 5K run and a fun 1-mile walk that winds through our community and celebrates the spirit of Mardi Gras. The 5K course starts near the Dash for the Beads festival on Davis Street, meanders through scenic Kessler Park, and returns to the festival grounds, offering both a beautiful and engaging route for runners of all levels. The 1-mile walk happens just before the 5K, making it perfect for families and participants of all ages.

The event takes place on Sunday, February 15, 2026, and kicks off with registration and packet pickup at 9:30am, followed by a DJ, the Fun Run/Walk at 10:30am., and the 5K start at 11:00am. Afterward, stay for the Go Oak Cliff Mardi Gras Parade beginning at 1:00pm.

Whether you’re racing, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, Dash for the Beads is a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate community, fitness, and the Mardi Gras season. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
